☕ Alzheimer’s Tea Day at College View Nursing Home Cavan ☕

Join us on Wednesday, May 7th from 2.30–4.30pm for a relaxed afternoon of tea, treats, and good company in support of Alzheimer’s Tea Day — a nationwide fundraiser by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland that brings communities together to support people living with dementia and their families.

Everyone is welcome - we would love to see you💙

If you can’t make it to our Tea Day, donations can be made through the team at College View any time you are visiting us.

Our Residents & Staff here in College View Nursing Home were delighted to welcome Tony Newman and Mairead Donnellan for their second visit as part of the “Songlines” workshop series, delivered through Festival in a Van and funded by the Cavan Arts
Arts Council of Cavan.

“Songlines” is a wonderful creative project that engages people living with dementia and cognitive impairment through poetry and song. Across a number of sessions, participants come together to share, discuss, read, and sing favourite pieces from childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, sparking memories, conversation, and connection.

This recent visit continued that journey, with music and poetry at the heart of a warm and engaging session that included both residents and staff.

👏👏👏Talent on show: We are also pleased to highlight that the artefacts featured in the photographs were beautifully handmade by Mairead Donnellan’s father, Michael Lyons, aged 88, from Poles, County Cavan. These special pieces added a meaningful and personal dimension to the workshop experience.

The project will culminate in an event on May 16th, performed from the Festival in a Van. This performance will bring together facilitators, participants, and staff, inviting audiences to join in through shared songs, poems, and requests developed throughout the workshops.

We look forward to sharing more moments from this inspiring journey.

A recent baking day here in College View Nursing Home where our Residents enjoyed making a wonderful selection of baked goodies including red velvet buns and cake with buttercream, chocolate bakes with lemon buttercream, and classic shortbread cookies filled with jam🍓🍋🍰🧁🥧.

Our home was full of lovely aromas and even lovelier moments, with everyone getting involved and proud of the results. Just look at those finished bakes – almost too good to eat 😍

A lovely day enjoyed by all, combining great company, fun, and of course… a sweet reward at the end😋😋💛

Our Easter Sunday soirée was filled with music, laughter, and great company, creating a lovely festive atmosphere for all to enjoy 🎶

🎂 Four Recent Birthday Celebrations at College View Nursing Home 🎂 🥳💐

A big Happy Birthday to Mary and Tom, being presented with their Birthday Cakes - they were a little surprised but delighted to mark their special day - and Cake is always welcome 🍰🎈

We also want to send warm birthday wishes to Eamon and Lena, who celebrated their birthdays in the past week as well 🎉 While they preferred to stay out of the spotlight 📸, we always respect the wishes and privacy of all our residents — it’s so important to us that everyone feels comfortable and happy in their home 🏡💖

Every birthday is a chance to celebrate the amazing people who make our community so special 💫

The birthday cakes were shared and enjoyed by all with a cup of Tea.

We Have Winners at College View Nursing Home

What a fantastic achievement for our residents and staff who took part in the Grace Healthcare Ireland Nursing Homes Group Virtual Quiz on Friday last. We are one of their 10 Nursing Homes in Ireland 💻👏

After 6 exciting rounds and 10 questions in each, we are thrilled to announce that College View Nursing Home took 1st place 🥇

An incredible team effort, full of knowledge, laughter and great spirit – and a well-deserved €500 prize to celebrate with 🎉💛

Well done to everyone involved and to all the homes who took part in such a fun and memorable event 🥰

🍴 Culinary Excellence Across Grace Healthcare Ireland Nursing Homes - of which we are one.

Thursday 12th March, Executive Chef Jose 👨‍🍳 brought together the talented chefs from all 10 Grace Healthcare Ireland homes 🏥 for an inspiring Culinary Day at Blenders Development Kitchen in Tallaght.

🔹 The day kicked off with a tour of Blenders’ production unit 🏭 — seeing how their sauces and condiments are made.
🔹 Chef Paul Bloxham, Culinary Director at Avendra International 🌍, shared insights on culinary trends, sustainability 🌱, and menu planning.
🔹 Chef Ronan Fox gave creative ideas on reducing food waste ♻️.
🔹 Chef Jose highlighted the philosophy behind Grace Healthcare’s catering approach ❤️.

🥘 The grand finale? A friendly cooking competition using Eat Curious products 🥦 — where creativity and collaboration were the main ingredients! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

At Grace Healthcare, the catering teams ensures high-quality, nutritious meals 🍲 tailored to every resident’s dietary needs. Working with our dietitians 🥗 and nursing teams 🩺, we focus on health, wellbeing, and enjoyment every day.

☘️ St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations at College View Nursing Home💚

We may be a little late sharing the 'craic' we had on St. Patrick's Day - but it’s been a lovely and busy time here at College View with Mother’s Day celebrations and Betty's 100th birthday 'hoolie'🎉

Now, we are delighted to look back and share some lovely memories from our St. Patrick’s Day celebrations 🇮🇪

☘We had a wonderful time celebrating Seachtain na Gaeilge here in College View Nursing Home from March 1st through to St. Patrick’s Day ☘️

As part of Irish Language Week, we made a special effort to use the "cúpla focal" and celebrate all things Irish. Our residents created a fantastic display as Gaeilge, showcasing their creativity and pride.

In the lead-up to St. Patrick’s Day, we also enjoyed some festive arts and crafts — including pots of gold and shamrocks 🌈

To round off the celebrations, we marked the end of Seachtain na Gaeilge with music, treats, and a few well-earned refreshments🥃 🎶

🎉 Celebrating 100 Remarkable Years 🎉

This week, our wonderful College View Nursing Home resident Betty celebrated an incredible milestone — turning 100 years young🥰🥳

Originally from Redhills, Betty built a life full of love and hard work. She was married and raised a beautiful daughter, and spent many years working on her farm alongside her trusty wee dog. Betty fondly recalls nights when she wouldn’t make it to bed, staying up as the cows were calving — a true testament to her dedication.

When asked the secret to a long life, Betty simply says: “hard work.” 💛

Betty marked her special day surrounded by her loving family, friends, and all the residents and staff here at College View Nursing Home — and there was great excitement throughout the home 🥳

She also received a special letter and commemorative medal from Uachtarán na hÉireann / President of Ireland Catherine Connolly honouring her remarkable 100 years of life and memories.

Here’s to Betty — a true inspiration and a wonderful reminder of a life well lived🥂

Mother’s Day at College View Nursing Home 💖💐

We are delighted to share some beautiful moments from our Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday. 🌸

All of our wonderful ladies enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea, filled with sweet treats lovingly prepared by our kitchen team 🎂🍰, along with a joyful sing-along and heartwarming storytelling 🎶📖

“A mother is someone who is compassionate, loving, selfless, strong, and kind” — qualities that each and every one of the incredible women here in College View embodies every day. 💕

On Mother’s Day, we celebrate not only mothers but all the amazing women in our home who bring so much warmth, wisdom, and kindness to our community.
