๐Ÿ“—HSE - GREEN FOLDER APPOINTMENT๐Ÿ“—

FOR EVERYONE GETTING MARRIED IN the South of Ireland - Republic of IRELAND

HSE Intent To Marry.
This legal process something that must be completed if you wish to be legally married in any of the 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland.
It is advisable to contact the HSE 9 to 12 months in advance of your date due to the high volume of couples sitting their Notice of Intention, but the appointment date must be at LEAST 3 months BEFORE the date you intend to marry.

For example, if wish to get married May 21st 2027, you call to make your appointment from May 2026, to have the meeting in the registry office. If your marriage date is set for 21st November 2026, you can call anytime between now and August.

This appointment has a fee of โ‚ฌ200 which goes to the state.

You may need a Certificate Of Impediment or Civil Letter Of Freedom if from or living abroad and Birth Certificate translated into English. If a Birth Certificate is required to be translated, this does take time to process so best work on this first.

Below is a checklist of documents required on the day. If you are living abroad this process can be started online and completed with an in person visit to the registry office when in the country for your wedding.

If you have been married previously or in a Civil Relationship or not a citizen of Ireland, the UK or an EU Member State the registry office will advise you of further necessary documentation.
