The Faha Graveyard Lifting Stones in County Clare, Ireland are historic stones lifted during funeral games and celebrations of life hundreds of years ago.

These thick tombstone shaped stones require some troubleshooting to lap and lift, especially the big stone which I was only able to lift to a squat position on multiple attempts.

I have a new found appreciation for the strength and technique used by guys like

The best part of the whole day was sharing it with good friends and

Stonelifting accounts to follow;

Three lifting stones lay at the Kiltennelly Graveyard weighing approx. 50kg(110lb), 100kg(220lb), and 140kg(308lb).

The location was commonly used in the early 1900s as a gathering place of worship and celebration which stonelifting played a major role.

This was my first time trying natural stone lifting but following accounts like .daveman has really inspired me to do more.

These stones are “shoulder heaving” stones but I wasn’t able to shoulder the big stone. Playing with it for reps felt quite good though.

Ive always loved cali work just started much later in the game after building a not so advantageous body type.

I’ve also been caught up in unrealistic standards that are generally based on ideal body types and have had to search deeper for methods that work for me.

and the have been a great resource for me in this regard over the years and now at 42 years old with a 200lbs frame, Im finding ways to make progress in straight arm skills like Front Lever while balancing multiple training qualities.

I share this kind of work on the training app in the Upper Body Strength & Gymnastics add on.

There’s always a way if you’re willing to think outside the box.

I was told for a long time that I didn’t have the hip structure for splits but I did it anyway.

Initially, I had no intent on obtaining splits. I just wanted to see if it would improve my sh*tty hips.

With the right approach, you learn quickly its not passive work people make it out to be.

It’s strength work. You’re building control and tolerance in positions we never spend time in, and that changes how your hips function in a much more meaningful way than just chasing temporary range.

No one avoids squats because of their anatomy. We adjust stance, depth, positioning, and we train it in a way that works for the individual.

This can absolutely be done with splits training.

It’s not more mobility, its learning how to use your mobility and it all starts with how you cue your descent.

My friend and I have been talking about this for a long time.

This is really how we turn the barbell squat itself into a weighted mobility exercise.

Ive talked a lot in the past around using a belt for feedback on your brace but this idea of using a band was presented a couple years ago by and its awesome.

Using a belt for the first time can be a headache so this works great for beginners and I especially like it for times when Im travelling light.

If you’ve never felt your brace working against something before, youre probably leaving a lot on the table.

Great to catch up with .maestro yesterday.

We played around with some restorative hip & spine ideas using only one dumbbell in a small space.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to showcase that you don’t need perfect conditions to move better.

Save for later and give it a try!
