On Tuesday 27th January 2026, Darragh O’Brien, Minister for Climate, Energy, and the Environment and Minister for Transport announced a package of supports to make it more affordable and easier for homeowners to undertake home energy upgrades for warmer, healthier, and more comfortable homes, with lower energy bills. These measures will help Ireland achieve its climate action targets.

Higher grants for Attic and Cavity insulation.

Higher grants for heat pump systems of up to €12,500 to include a Renewable Heat bonus of €4,000 and a Central Heating grant of €2,000.

Introduction of a High Temperature Heat Pump pilot under National Home Energy Upgrade scheme.

Commencing 4 March 2026:
• New Windows and Doors grant under the Better Energy Homes scheme.
• New grants for people in receipt of specified Social Protection Payments. These applicants can apply for Higher Attic and Cavity grants under Better Energy Homes.
• New attic grants for First Time Buyers under Better Energy Homes.
• Homeowners who previously installed cavity wall or internal wall insulation may be eligible for a second wall insulation grant under Better Energy Homes.
• Removal of the minimum 100 kWh/m2/yr energy uplift requirement under National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme where a heat pump is installed.
• Removal of the requirement to have a pre-works BER B3 or worse for National Home Energy Upgrade Scheme.
