The Order Of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps - Rathdrum unit was delighted to provide an ambulance and crew for this year’s Annual Christmas Market and Turning On of the Christmas Lights.

A huge congratulations to the Rathdrum Christmas festival committee on putting together a fantastic market, packed with a brilliant variety of stalls and entertainment. From talented singers and energetic dancers to the incredible flame thrower, there truly was something for everyone!

Well done to all the performers – the level of skill and effort on display was outstanding and really added to the festive atmosphere.

It was also wonderful to see that Santa managed to squeeze Rathdrum into his busy schedule, taking the time to meet all the excited children who came out to see him.

Despite the cold evening, the massive turnout was a testament to the hard work and dedication of the committee. The night was rounded off perfectly with a spectacular fireworks display, lighting up the sky and bringing the community together.

Rathdrum is looking incredibly festive once again. The Christmas lights make the town shine, and the huge amount of work that goes into putting them up is truly appreciated.

Finally, our unit was proud to have a member representing us at the Order of Malta National Safeguarding Day in Athlone today. These events are incredibly important to ensure we maintain the highest standards of care and safety for everyone we support.

Wishing everyone a safe and magical start to the festive season!

Our unit was delighted to be invited to the Glenealy Men’s Shed meeting over the last 2 evenings to provide a session on basic first aid skills.

A huge thank-you to everyone who attended — the interest, questions and interaction throughout made the session thoroughly enjoyable. It’s always great to see a community group so engaged and eager to learn.

These are fantastic skills to have and can make a real difference in an emergency, but of course, we hope none of you ever have to put them into practice!

The Order Of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps - Rathdrum unit had an ambulance and crew on duty in Rathnew yesterday, providing medical cover for a juvenile martial arts event. Well done to all the young participants — hopefully no one is too sore today!

Congratulations to the organisers on a safe, smooth, and well-run event.

The Unit also had our 2nd ambulance out with a crew on duty yesterday evening in Laragh, providing medical cover for the annual Christmas Lights Switch-On and Parade.

The parade looked incredible with all the different vehicles covered in festive lights and decorations — a brilliant showcase of community spirit.

And of course, it was fantastic to see Santa Claus himself right in the heart of the parade, bringing smiles to young and old alike.

A huge congratulations to the Laragh Christmas Lights committee on a job exceptionally well done. The massive turnout tonight is a testament to all the hard work, planning and dedication that went into making this event such a success.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy start to the Christmas season.

Today marks Restart a Heart Day, an international campaign that highlights the vital importance of CPR and early defibrillation in saving lives.

Each year, thousands of people across Ireland and around the world experience a sudden cardiac arrest outside of hospital. In many of those cases, survival depends on the actions of the first person on scene. Immediate CPR and early use of an AED can double or even triple the chance of survival before emergency services arrive.

Anyone can learn to save a life. You don’t need medical training — just the confidence to act quickly when every second counts. Learning how to recognise cardiac arrest, begin chest compressions, and use a defibrillator could one day help save someone close to you.

On Restart a Heart Day, take a few minutes to refresh your CPR skills, familiarise yourself with the location of your nearest defibrillator, or encourage a friend or family member to learn.

Yesterday, we returned to Echelon Park for the Wicklow County Camogie Intermediate and Senior Finals, and today we were back again providing medical cover for the Boom & Platform Hire Intermediate and Senior Hurling Finals.

A huge congratulations to all the teams and participants involved over both weekends and sincere thanks to the organisers, officials, and spectators at all venues.

Yesterday, our unit was honoured to provide medical cover for the Samaritans Hand of Friendship Walk in Avondale, an event deeply inspired by the late Charlie Bird. It was truly moving to see so many people come together in solidarity, compassion, and remembrance, supporting such a meaningful cause.

We extend our sincere thanks to Niamh from the Order of Malta Ireland Ambulance Corps Wexford Unit for her assistance on this duty, and to our colleagues in the Order of Malta Ireland - Ambulance Corps - Bray unit, who provided cover for the Off-Road Motorcycle Event held by Rathdrum Offroad Club in Aughrim. This spirit of cooperation between units reflects the strength of our organisation – always ready to support each other in service of the wider community.

As Charlie Bird so powerfully reminded us: “The most important thing you can do is extend the hand of friendship.” May his words continue to guide and inspire.
