I'm thrilled to announce my next women's "Breathe and Achieve" gathering which will take place on Tues, December 5th, 8-9pm (based on your feedback, this time suits most). 🌟

It will be a perfect way to unwind and recharge amidst the December chaos. I will be:

🍃 Teaching a different breathwork practice to last months.
🍃 Facilitating light group coaching to inspire reflection, whether it's setting small, nurturing goals for December or assessing your life's direction—fostering personal growth, better health, and overall wellbeing.

This session is FREE, a gift from me to you! However sessions in 2024 will continue to offer a valuable experience but in exchange for a nominal investment.

Limited spots available for 8 wonderful women:
Drop me a message with your email address to secure your spot!

Why should you give it a try?
🌺 Give yourself some space for you and your inner calm.
⌛ Time to reflect on your life or set small nurturing goals for personal growth, health, and wellbeing.
👭 Build meaningful connections with like-minded women.

Here's a glimpse of the last session through a participant's review:
"Sinead is a wonderful guide for the breathwork journey. She holds space very gently and asks inspiring follow up questions. Learning about breathwork in a group setting was very interesting and helped me getting beyond the point of discomfort while exercising. As I was doing it in a group it helped me keep going and then I started to feel more relaxed. I can only strongly recommend to try out a breathwork session with Sinead."

Looking ahead to 2024, based on the feedback I am considering a mix of in-person in Cork city and online sessions.

There are lots of great benefits that happen when we start journaling. One really interesting one is an improvement in our ability to focus.

I am taking a moment to be grateful and celebrate what I have achieved over the last year 🙌

Part of my Self Health work with clients is encouraging others to plan, to take action and to review. Reviewing has always been the thing I struggle most with personally and in work. That's why taking this moment to celebrate the wins and acknowledge my progress.

A big thank you to all who supported me this year and those I collaborated with 🙏

In the last post I discussed how comparing to others can be unhealthy, now I will offer 3 steps to stop unhealthy comparing:

1. Awareness:

Become aware of when you are comparing yourself to others and then feel not good enough e.g. is it people on social media, TV, people in work etc.?

2. Replace:

You can now give yourself permission to limit your time around people who trigger you both in real life and online. Instead try to surround yourself with people and content you respect and inspire you. Here you can use comparison to feel seen as they share their struggles and also to feel more motivated.

3. Work on your self-worth:

🌟Keep drawing your attention back to your strengths and things to be grateful for in your life instead of what you feel you might be lacking.
🌟 Plan out small little consistent steps to move you forward in achieving a goal you would like to accomplish. Don’t forget to tell yourself well done and acknowledge the effort and work you put in at various times throughout your journey to accomplish this goal. Use times of failure to figure out what is the lesson here or what adjustments will support you to get back on track rather than using it as a way to give out to yourself.
🌟 Focus on what and who you want more of in your life.

"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
- Eleanor Rosevelt

👉UNHEALTHY COMPARING:

When we blame ourselves for not being good enough. We are focusing on what we don’t have. We may feel jealous, sad, frustrated, angry or hopeless. We might say or think things like:

“I wish I looked like that”
“If only I loved exercise like them”
“Why is it so easy for them to get pregnant?”
“If only I had her job”

👉PUTTING OTHERS ON A PEDESTAL:

When we compare in this way then we can tend to think that everything goes right in the other person's life. We need to remember that everyone struggles, everyone faces challenges and just because it looks like they have the perfect body, job, finances or family it doesn’t mean that they feel that they do.

We all only have a limited amount of time and energy so if the people we are comparing ourselves to are putting all their time, energy and focus on one aspect of their life then they are not nurturing other areas of their life. So if I am solely focused on work then I will be out of balance in other areas of my life such as my health, my relationships, fun such as hobbies etc.

Next post will explore 3 steps to stop comparing to others in an unhealthy way...

I'm not for everyone and that's ok because I want to work with people who don't want:

1. Surface level stuff
2. To just do exactly what someone has told them to do
3. To live up to societies or others expectations of what their own health and wellness "should" look like.

My clients are ready to look inward but want support in:

1. Figuring out what exactly they really want with their own health and wellness.
2. Exploring their own perspectives and behaviours.
3. Experimenting with different ways of finding their health and wellness that works specifically for them.
4. Taking action in a realistic and adaptable way.

Tips for reducing or cutting out alcohol for any period of time:

🍾 Drink 0% beers, wine, spirits and mocktails.
This has been an absolute game changer for me. I love the taste of Heineken 0% and Guinness 0% which you can get on tap in a lot of places and I still feel like I'm having a treat. I am bored by just drinking water on a night out and doing so really emphasises that I am not drinking which can make me feel left out in some way.

🍷 Explore your beliefs, thoughts and actions around alcohol.
If we want to change then we have to assess the reasons why we drink. From my last post you can see I got really honest with myself around this. Take some time to write down the benefits of alcohol, rather than only looking at the negatives of alcohol. When we know the benefits then we can find other ways to fulfil those needs such a need for stress relief.

🍸 Experiment
Try drinking water in between alcoholic ones. Try setting an intention at the start of the night for how many drinks you want to stick to. Try finding other ways to relax such as deep breathing or yoga. Try finding other ways to have fun like trying a new hobby. Try some personal development either through books and workshops or with a coach like me to feel more confident.

I realised that I didn’t need to be an alcoholic to have an unhealthy relationship with alcohol…🍷

We all know the physical issues alcohol can cause from digestive upset, to it being a carcinogen. Not to mind if you already have a chronic medical condition that can be worsened by alcohol.

What we don’t talk about is the real reasons we think we need drink in the first place, in the first place, here were some of my unhelpful beliefs:

🍾 I feel less anxious around people
🍸 It allows me to let go
🍹 Everything is more fun when I drink
🍺 I am more fun and confident when I drink

I really struggled to cut down and be consistent, I did all the things I would advise my clients when trying to cut down like having a pint of water after each drink. Cutting down didn't work for me and I realised it was time to stop hiding behind alcohol and to experiment with sobriety.

Saying you are going to stop drinking forever sounds extreme and daunting, instead I’m going with Sober Curious (also the name of a very helpful podcast). For me this means that if I decide to have 1 drink at a wedding with dinner I will or that I may go back to drinking again in the future but for now I need space from alcohol to bring out that fun, relaxed confident side of me in other ways.

So delighted and excited to be featured in The Echo Newspaper today🤩

"Mum's put pressure on themselves to be perfect and do things "right" for various reasons.

For me personally as I had gone through years of infertility treatments I put pressure on myself to be constantly grateful and happy that I finally had my baby. However, when my daughter couldn't sleep I would shame myself for feeling frustrated.

Farzana, my colleague, in the past would feel guilty when leaving her children to do something small for herself even if they were with their dad.

Mothers receive messages from everyone...society, social media, colleagues, family, friends etc... about what a good mother is and how we should behave. These messages start when we are kids ourselves so we can internalise those messages and act on them even if we don't fully believe them to be true for ourselves. It's difficult to remove these long term ingrained messages about motherhood. So I believe the first step is to take small amounts of time to look after your own needs. It's small gestures where you allow yourself to be a priority too."

Anxiety How Much Is Normal?
I discussed with PJ how we all naturally will experience being in a state of anxiety, to various frequencies, lengths of time and various degrees. On a severe level it can be a disorder which can be very difficult for people who live with it.

- What is Anxiety?
It's an emotion characterised by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure (American Psychological Association).

- Can Anxiety be useful?
Its easy to think of it as the enemy but it has a purpose it helps us to thrive or survive. So its trying to tell us something we need to know, e.g. you might value giving an informative presentation to your colleagues this week but you haven't prepared for it yet. Anxiety comes up to remind you to get started, once you have prepared for the presentation the anxiety goes away as its done its job.

- Common triggers:
Generally we are triggered when we feel things are uncertain or too much. However what triggers one person may not create the same response in someone else e.g. moving house, illness, a build up of work, an argument. Sometimes there is no obvious reason for it and this can become a problem.

Support for anxiety:
- The HSE recommends if you’re feeling so anxious that it’s impacting on your day-to-day life, or is causing you distress you should see your GP. Its important to determine if it is anxiety you are experiencing. Your GP will guide you on what to do next.

- If you are diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, then cognitive behavioural therapy is effective in helping people manage anxiety.

- If your anxiety is not a disorder, then working with a coach like me that uses a cognitive behavioural approach to free you from unhelpful patterns of how you think and behave is very helpful. I can look at the causes of your anxiety such as work, specific relationships, busyness, coping with a change in your life etc.. I also like to look at other elements that may be negatively impacting your anxiety, such as a lack of sleep, not eating well, not moving enough.
