Nature Boy - Seán Ronayne
Myself and Goulwen had the pleasure of listening to Seán Ronayne speak at the Dalkey Literary Festival recently. We have friends living near Dalkey, so we took full advantage — a wonderful talk from Seán and a fabulous lunch with our friends last Friday. If you’re not familiar with Seán, he’s featured in a beautiful documentary called Birdsong, which you can find now on the RTE iPlayer.

Seán’s story is so inspiring — he was entertaining, gentle, captivating, and shared more about his early days and how his deep love for nature, and birds in particular, took root. He’s currently recording the sounds of all the bird species in Ireland, and is a strong voice for preservation, biodiversity and educating us all about what’s around us.

His book, Nature Boy, came home with me — signed, too! If you haven’t come across Seán yet, I highly recommend you look him up. And while you’re at it, maybe check out BirdWatch Ireland — they send out a wonderful free email newsletter full of bird and wildlife news, and you can join or donate if you wish. Lovely reading for these long summer days.
