Members of gen Z were born between 1997 and 2012 (now 12-27 yrs old).

This particular article begins with ‘I was taught periods were shameful, unclean, something to hide’.

We need to ensure that we do better for Gen Alpha (max age 11 now).

Our primary school programme for parents on puberty and periods is perfect (that’s a lot of ‘P’s 😂) for those with girls in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th classes.

We are delighted to launch our online programme for parents of girls in 5th and 6th class.

The age at first menstrual period, also known as menarche, is decreasing. Although the average age is approx. 12, we are now seeing many girls get their first period at age 10 (and even younger).

It is key that parents are informed on how to best support their daughters through puberty, to set them up for a positive experience at this crucial development stage.

Our programme is delivered via a live zoom call.
We cover how to prepare your daughter for her first period, the best period product options, as well as the various gynaecological issues that may arise throughout the adolescent journey. We provide practical tips and techniques to improve girls’ wellbeing throughout their cycle, helping to set up the right conditions for positive gynae health going forward.

If your school would like an overview of our programme, send us a DM or contact us via www.mygirlsgynae.com. We would love to hear from you.

This workshop is for mums/dads/carers of girls of between the ages of 8 and 18.

Don’t miss out on this invaluable opportunity to learn from Geraldine and Paula plus their very special guest, Child and Adolescent Psychologist, Dr Rebecca Quinn.

This will be a Q&A session focusing on teen health from a medical and holistic perspective and will focus on the very important link between physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.

So interesting to see the feedback from 12 and 13 year olds after our “All about Puberty” course.

Just thought we would share a snapshot with you.

There was a general trend that they didn’t like to look at diagrams of the v***a! It’s so important to educate teens on their female anatomy. We were very happy to see so many forms saying that they felt embarrassed at first but comfortable and relaxed after a while.

Delighted that we got such positive feedback around the overall content and that the programme really met the expectations of the students.

If you would like to organise an educational programme for your school, we would love to hear from you. Just DM us to get in touch or contact us via the website link in bio.

We are excited to announce that our event on Thursday evening for parents/carers on Teen Gynae Health will now be available online. If you can’t join the online live event, we can send you the recording.

This is a perfect opportunity to ask any questions you might have in relation to your daughter’s gynae health. The event is relevant for parents of girls between the ages of 8-18.

We will be covering all things puberty and period related. We really hope you can join us,

Geraldine and Paula.

A huge thank you to Loreto Balbriggan for hosting us this week. We were delighted to educate 8 classes of first year students on puberty and periods.

We combined educational presentations with Yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques to reinforce understanding.

Loreto Balbriggan has a fabulous management team which is reflected in the ethos of the school - it was such a warm and welcoming environment for us to work in this week.

Food is medicine:

Feed your microbiome-include fermented foods in your diet - eg., sauerkraut, kimchi, kefir, miso. A diet rich in fermented foods enhances the diversity of gut microbes and decreases molecular signs of inflammation (source: Stanford School of Medicine).

Cruciferous veg (e,g., broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, spinach) all help to balance hormones- they are high in fibre, support oestrogen detox in the liver, and boost antioxidant activity in the body - great for both puberty and peri menopause.

Scientific studies have definitively linked a diet high in legumes with a lower risk of developing obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, or strokes. As a matter of fact, eating legumes every day can effectively treat these diseases in people who already have them.(Source: Harvard Health).

An extract from Geraldine’s article on the links between puberty and menopause - how they are two sides of the same coin.

In 1996 most Irish women were having their first child at 20-24 years of age. By 2021 the average age of mothers having their first child was 33 years, the highest ever recorded. This means that both puberty and (peri)menopause frequently co-exist in the same household with interesting results! Many a husband/dad has taken to safety in the garden shed.

Would you like us to cover peri/menopause as well as teen health?

Let us know in the comments if you want us to also provide information bringing together the holistic and medical worlds in this area.
