How to Read Nutritional Labels (Without Feeling Confused!) 🛒
Have you ever picked up a “healthy” product and wondered if it really is good for you? Nutritional labels can look complicated, but once you know what to look for, they become a powerful tool for making healthier choices.
Here are a few simple tips to help you read food labels with confidence:
1️⃣ Start with the Ingredients List
Ingredients are listed from the highest to the lowest amount.
👉 If sugar, glucose syrup, or refined oils are among the first ingredients, the product may be highly processed.
2️⃣ Check the Sugar Content
Many products contain hidden sugars. Look at the “of which sugars” section on the label.
As a guide: • Low sugar: under 5g per 100g
• High sugar: over 15g per 100g
3️⃣ Look at Fibre
Fibre supports digestion and gut health.
Choose products with at least 3g of fibre per 100g where possible.
4️⃣ Watch the Salt (Sodium)
Too much salt can affect blood pressure.
A product is considered high in salt if it has more than 1.5g per 100g.
5️⃣ Don’t Be Fooled by Marketing
Words like “natural”, “low-fat”, or “healthy” don’t always mean the product is nutritious. Always check the label yourself.
✨ Tip: The fewer ingredients, the better!
Learning how to read food labels helps you make informed choices and support your gut health, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.
💬 Next time you’re shopping, take 10 seconds to check the label — your body will thank you!
