How to Read Nutritional Labels (Without Feeling Confused!) 🛒

Have you ever picked up a “healthy” product and wondered if it really is good for you? Nutritional labels can look complicated, but once you know what to look for, they become a powerful tool for making healthier choices.

Here are a few simple tips to help you read food labels with confidence:

1️⃣ Start with the Ingredients List
Ingredients are listed from the highest to the lowest amount.
👉 If sugar, glucose syrup, or refined oils are among the first ingredients, the product may be highly processed.

2️⃣ Check the Sugar Content
Many products contain hidden sugars. Look at the “of which sugars” section on the label.
As a guide: • Low sugar: under 5g per 100g
• High sugar: over 15g per 100g

3️⃣ Look at Fibre
Fibre supports digestion and gut health.
Choose products with at least 3g of fibre per 100g where possible.

4️⃣ Watch the Salt (Sodium)
Too much salt can affect blood pressure.
A product is considered high in salt if it has more than 1.5g per 100g.

5️⃣ Don’t Be Fooled by Marketing
Words like “natural”, “low-fat”, or “healthy” don’t always mean the product is nutritious. Always check the label yourself.

✨ Tip: The fewer ingredients, the better!
Learning how to read food labels helps you make informed choices and support your gut health, energy levels, and overall wellbeing.

💬 Next time you’re shopping, take 10 seconds to check the label — your body will thank you!

Feeling stretched thin and noticing shifts in energy, mood or digestion? I’m a clinician-turned-practical-wellness founder and I’ve distilled three simple, sustainable gut-first habits that support hormonal rhythm for busy women.
1) Swap one refined snack a day for a fibre-rich option — think oat porridge, a handful of nuts or a seeded cracker.
2) Prioritise steady protein at breakfast (eggs, Greek yoghurt, or a pea-protein shake) to stabilise blood sugar and mood.
3) Build a calming herbal tea ritual in the evening — chamomile or lemon balm for gentle nervous-system support.
These aren’t quick fixes; they’re evidence-informed, doable shifts you can keep for life. Ready to try one this week? Visit https://wix.to/jQMEIMR to learn more and join our community. 🌿🙂

I love sharing quiet wins like this one: a woman in her 30s found steady gut and hormonal balance by choosing calm, food-first changes and a simple herbal tea ritual.
Over months she saw less bloating, steadier energy and a calmer mood — not overnight, but steady and real. If you’re time-poor and exhausted by quick fixes, small daily habits can rebuild your energy and confidence. Want to learn more? Read her story and our approach at https://wix.to/4jTrUrG 🌿✨

Your Gut Controls More Hormones Than You Think
Did you know your gut plays a major role in regulating hormones that control hunger, mood, energy, and even fat storage?
Your gut produces and influences key hormones such as:
✨ Ghrelin – your hunger hormone
✨ Leptin – the hormone that signals fullness
✨ Serotonin – about 90% is produced in the gut and affects mood and sleep
✨ Cortisol – your stress hormone, which impacts digestion and belly fat

When the gut microbiome is out of balance, these hormones can become dysregulated. This can lead to:
• Constant cravings
• Bloating and digestive discomfort
• Mood swings or anxiety
• Low energy
• Weight struggles

The good news? When you support your gut, you also support healthy hormone balance.
Small changes like improving digestion, reducing inflammation, and nourishing your microbiome can make a huge difference.

✨ Your gut is the foundation of whole-body health.

I’ve found a simple ritual that gently settles the gut and soothes the nervous system — one cup at a time. Steep a blend of carminative herbs (think fennel and peppermint) with a mild antispasmodic like chamomile, inhale the steam, and sip slowly for five minutes. The actions are evidence-informed: easing spasms, reducing wind, and calming stress pathways so digestion and mood can relax together. Could this small pause fit into your busy day? Try it after a meal or before bed, notice how your body responds, and make it yours. Learn more and shop the blend at https://wix.to/SZMvl0L 🌿☕️

✨ The 9 Pillars of a Long, Healthy Life ✨

Longevity isn’t about one magic supplement.
It’s about daily habits that support your body, mind & gut 💚

Here are 9 pillars that create real, lasting health:

1️⃣ Nourishing whole foods (gut-friendly, anti-inflammatory)
2️⃣ Strong digestion & a balanced microbiome
3️⃣ Daily movement (walking, strength, stretching)
4️⃣ Deep, restorative sleep
5️⃣ Stress management & nervous system regulation
6️⃣ Meaningful relationships & connection
7️⃣ Purpose & passion
8️⃣ Time in nature 🌿
9️⃣ A positive mindset & gratitude

You don’t need to perfect all 9 at once.
Start with ONE. Small steps create powerful change.

At Wellness Roots, I help you build these foundations — especially starting with your gut, because true health begins there.

💚 If you’re ready to feel lighter, clearer, and more energised, send me a DM with the word “GUT” or click the link in bio to learn about my gut health support programs.

Now tell me 👇
Which pillar do you feel strongest in right now… and which one needs more attention?
