Exfoliating “scrubbing”before laser hair removal is important, but timing and method matter to protect your skin. Here’s how to do it safely:
Why exfoliate before laser
Removes dead skin cells, oils, and product buildup.
Helps the laser reach hair follicles more effectively.
Reduces the risk of ingrown hairs afterward.
When to do it
Exfoliate 24–48 hours before your laser appointment — not on the same day.
Doing it too close to the treatment can make your skin more sensitive and prone to irritation or burns.
How to exfoliate properly
Use a gentle scrub or a mild chemical exfoliant (like lactic acid or glycolic acid).
Avoid harsh physical scrubs with large, rough particles (e.g., salt or nut shells).
Rinse well and apply a light moisturizer afterward.
Don’t exfoliate if your skin is sunburned, irritated, or has open cuts.
What to avoid before treatment
No self-tanner, retinol, or acids (AHA/BHA) for at least 3 days prior.
No waxing, plucking, or depilatory creams for 2–3 weeks — you should only shave before your appointment.
Shave the area 12–24 hours before the laser session so the hair is just below the surface.
