A breastfeeding mother can safely take Paracetamol & Ibuprofen as directed whilst breastfeeding. Once not contraindicated for medical conditions. Unfortunately mothers are still being told not to breastfeed when ill or on all antibiotics, which is not always necessary. About 1% of the medicine ends up in breast milk , and most antibiotics are widely used in paediatric practice to treat infant infections when needed , as is paracetamol and ibuprofen. If in doubt check it out .

Choosing the correct size and type of bra for breastfeeding is most important . A nursing bra that is ill fitting can contribute to blocked ducts if too restrictive , which may lead to developing mastitis . Similarly a sculpted nursing bra cup can be a barrier to achieving an optimal latch. The fabric of the bra is also important as synthetic materials are less breathable and may contribute to fungal infections of the ni**le & ar**la. In pregnancy we carry extra weight in our back to support the bump, getting measured in pregnancy for most mothers will not give an accurate size bra to last for your feeding journey . I always recommend getting your breasts measured a few weeks into your feeding journey when engorgement has settled. The best time for a professional bra measurement is actually before your baby is due a feed , as your breasts are at their fullest cup size and this will ensure correct sizing and support.

imagine how uncomfortable it must feel
to wear clothes after only knowing the safety of the womb.

imagine how frightening it is
to be hungry for the very first time
when you’ve never known hunger before.

how strange to be cut from the cord
that kept you close and connected to mama.
how lonely to suddenly not hear her heartbeat
the way you always have.

but then
your eyes open.
your tiny body trembles.
and she is right there.

her arms, her warmth, her milk.
her body teaching you:
you are safe.
you are held.
you are loved.

what a privilege it is to be
your baby’s whole world.
their comfort.
their home.
their everything.

and what a miracle that a mother’s body
still gives them all they need.
even outside the womb.❤️
