Growth spurts in kids.

Growing starts in the bones.

Feet, shin bone, thigh bone, pelvis, spine arms and skull.

The muscles have to catch up to the growth if the new bone length.

Kids may appear to be stiff or less flexible during this phase.

Injuries are most common in the muscles as a result.

The bigger and faster they grow, the bigger chances of Injuries

When your child is Growing fast you do 2 things.

Feed them more food 😋 and reduce their sporting output.
.and buy new foot wear 🤣

Sport prepares kids for the wins, the loses, commitment, communication, organisation, team work, team setting etc

Sport teaches kids about LIFE!

We as parents/coaches need to remember this 😉

You have to put the work in.

Weight loss drugs are gaining popularity as you can now get them from your GP.

It's none of my business what you take, let me say that.

What I will say is you have to put the work in to lose the weight

Drugs are not the easy way out.

If you don't change your diet then the drugs will not work as good.

If you don't train, then the works won't work as good for you.

Don't be mislead by crap you see on the Internet.

Your body, your responsibility.

Can you prevent an Injury in sport or in general?

No - is the answer.

You can certainly reduce your chances when weight training, flexibility/mobility work is ongoing for you during the week.

So no matter what you buy or invest in regarding courses online regardless of what your were told or sold Injuries can and will happen, unfortunately.

Let's look at Injuries from a recovery view point or indeed surgery.

Shoulder Injuries are very common so we will use this as our case study example.

Person #1 does not lift weights or do any form of exercise.

Person #2 very active lifestyle and goes to the gym 4 days a week.

Both Injure their shoulder.

There is a higher chance of person #2 recovering quicker than # 1

Why?

The tissues are in better condition as in more muscle developed, they are in better health cardiovascular wise also.

So yes, it pays to be healthy and fit when we pick up an injury or indeed surgery is required.

Invest in your health

A little rant ..

When doctors tell people who have back pain to go home, take 2 weeks off work, do no physical exercise, take loads of pain medication and NO PHYSICAL THERAPY.

This advice from a medical provider is awful 😖

It's outdated and will do nothing to help the situation

Rant over.

Be honest with yourself about your health.

If you are struggling with your weight along with drinking alcohol during the week, smoke 🚬 and no exercise plan in place then by all means you should have a think on how healthy your current lifestyle is.

Something to think about over the weekend 🤔

This is a brilliant listen if you are struggling with menopause symptoms.

You really need to talk to a professional that understands hormones.

A female client of mine was prescribed anti depressants and Estrogen at the same time from her Doctor.

Her words ' I went crazy' when I took them.

Something I hear often from parents and the following..

* they never warm up properly
* they never do any stretching or mobility
* they don't do enough gym work.
* they never tell them about diets

Who are they?

They are coaches for GAA, SOCCER etc

They are there to coach that sport. End of.

They all do the very best they can

If you want your child to do any of the following that I listed then take that in your hands to help your child. Don't rely on someone else.

Simple really

Shoulder pain?

2 clients this week so far had a wrist issue that was contributing to the shoulder pain. They had no wrist pain or issues

The body will keep you fooled 😏 if you don't get a full history on injuries etc

There are many reasons why injuries happen.

Accumulation of work is one I see a lot.

In order words, it's not what you are doing at the time of injury it's what you have done.

A recent client of mine who swims a lot told me he was in the pool on a recovery session and his shoulder got sore.

He now has a tear that may need surgery.

He has been swimming 4 times a week and up to 2km of swimming each time for the past 4 year's...since he last shoulder operation 🤔

This is a classic example of Accumulation.

Lifestyle changes could change your life!

I interact with a lot of chronic pain clients.

Many I meet had or still have a poor Lifestyle in place

Long stressful work hours, running around after kids, caring for parents, no exercise, poor diet, you get the idea.

When pain comes along in this set up in an already tired body it's difficult to make changes and work to manage your pain.

What's my point?

Look after yourself better don't wait to look after your health until you are sick or have pain

I rarely meet people with chronic pain who have had a healthy life previous to experiencing pain. That is definitely something to think about

Strength and conditioning S/C.

I'm a big fan of it as those who follow this page know.

What confuses me a little bit is when athletes tell me they done a 6 week course and that's it for the year.

I always ask, why did you stop?

I get two answers.

First one is they don't have time as they are on the pitch most nights either training or playing games.

Second one is they blame the club for only providing a 6 week course.

My answer- depending on age but kids should be in the gym twice a week all year round 💪

If you don't have time, drop something to make time for the gym.

I find athletes weekly structure is all over the place.

They barely have time to have their dinner let alone study, gym, pitch etc

Show me a kid who has a structured week and I bet they will go far in life.

Usually a person who trains has their meal plan ready for the week also.
