Box breathing is a style of breathing that involves breathing in, holding your breath, exhaling and holding your breath for counts of 4 seconds each time you go around the box. When we experience feelings of stress, worry or anxiety, box breathing is a great way to calm our nervous system, as it activates our relaxation response đ
If you are going to try it, you might find it helpful to repeat the four steps, around the box, on repeat, for 2 minutes. If that goes well, you can increase the time to 5 minutes â°
It can help by taking your attention from worrisome thoughts, so that you can count. You will typically find it is quite difficult to overthink and properly count at the same time!
