Horse Sport Ireland, are concerned at the anecdotal evidence of increased resistance to equine wormers in sport horses in Ireland. As a result they have commissioned this Anthelminthic resistance research to be completed this year. Telenostic are carrying out a nationwide testing of sport horses, under this research contract for , to determine prevalence of resistance to worm doses on equine farms in Ireland.
We are offering free evaluation for 50 yards to include approximately 12 horses per yard. This will involve sending in faecal samples, from preferably young stock and horses that have not been dosed recently, to the lab for analysis for the presence of parasitic eggs. The Irish Equine Center will advise each yard what action to take based on these results. For horses with a high parasitic count, a dosing strategy will be advised and a second sample will be evaluated a number of days later after a dose is administered. This will determine if resistance is a problem on your farm and again, the Irish Equine Center will interpret the results and advise each yard on worming strategies going forward.
