Huge congrats to Limerick Golf Club Ballyclough captain Cassie Cotter-Browne , who narrowly defeated junior golfer wunderkind Tom Murphy in a very tense final, to become this year's 'South Of Ireland GimmeGolf Open 2025' champion (2024 champion Mike Kemmy shall present her with the trophy, Masters-style, at a club presentation soon).

Grainne O'Donovan & Jenny Rice were the other semi-finalists. ( and special mention to Minister Niall Collins T.D. and took his first round defeat with a sporting grin).

So just a few days to go before the inaugural 'South Of Ireland GimmeGolf Open' - and we're thrilled to say that the 'Terry Wogan Prepetual Trophy' that will be presented to the Winner will be made from an actual PING putter used by Sir Terry during a Limerick interview with RTE's Colm Murray (also a keen golfer).

What's makes this so special? Well, as it happens, Limerick's own Terry Wogan held the World Record for the longest putt ever Televised! And he was a lifelong 'PING' affectionado... so we're thrilled to honour him.

(In associated trivia, 'PING' golf clubs got their name from the 440 HZ Ping sound that came off the very first putter the company founder made in 1959 - The Ping A1. See the attached videos for more details.... See y'all next Saturday 28th Sept at 2PM...)

Loneliness and general well-being are some of the significant challenges facing older people in Ireland, but a sporting adventurer and golf lover has come up with an idea that could open the world of golf to a new audience and even make a convincing claim for inclusion in the Olympic Games.
