For those of you who didn't know its 'Men's Mental Health week'. 12th-18th June. Its another way to increase awareness of preventable health problems. Stats suggest more than 1 male every day takes his own life in Ireland. This is absolutely crazy. I believe more often than not most lads don't know how they are feeling. We cover up our pain with addiction be it food, drink, s*x, gambling, work. Lads we need to start talking. If you can't talk to your mates talk to a professional, pick up the phone. Feeling down can often be the beginning. Say it too your partner, mother or family member. ' I'm feeling low today mam what should I do'. These words can change your life. Your partner/family will welcome them with open arms. It can lead you on then to talking to others about it. But the first step must be taken by you. People will ask you how you are and for anyone who hasn't admitted they suffer with anxiety/depression you will put on a mask. Not until you surrender to it and admit to someone how you feel will the process of getting your life back begin. The days of lads having to hide there emotions are long long gone. I see lads daily come into me for pain related issues who also admit they are suffering with anxiety or low moods for years and haven't spoken to anyone. The abnormal has become normal. They believe this is who they are and 'get on with it'. Trust me this is not the life you want to lead. It can be a lot lot better than this. But knowing how and where to tackle it is the problem. Even do there is Soooo much awareness out there rates are still very high. I hope this rant will help someone! I'm available for anyone who would like to chat, no obligations. Often treating the body can help ease stresses and give some energy and head space back to you. It can be a start and I can create a wrap around support system for you to get you back on the road. Its a hard road to go but trust me its worth it, Ive been down there and came out the other end of depression. Its a rough animal but it can be tamed when you learn the skills to deal with it. Ladies please ask your men how they are feeling and show them this, you will have planted a seed that may grow at some stage. Please tag/share this too as many people as you can. Ask them to do the same.
