🌊 Inside the Galway Hyperbaric Chamber

A brilliant visit with Athlone & Galway Sub Aqua Club to see how this life-saving facility treats diving emergencies and more.

Key reminder:
👉 Recognise symptoms early
👉 Dive within your limits
👉 Build up slowly

The chamber plays a vital role—not just for divers, but also for conditions like carbon monoxide poisoning and severe infections.

Not only for workplace - training to be confident with someone in need is also for you.

Today I was reflecting on our Patient Handling training, which is often attended by nurses, carers, and staff working in nursing homes. These are incredibly important skills in the workplace – but they are just as important at home.

Many people quietly care for a parent, partner, relative, or child.

And sometimes they do it alone, without ever being shown the safest way to help someone move, stand, or transfer without hurting themselves. ...without having a chat with someone emotionally going through similar challenges.

That’s why I always want to say this clearly:

Our training is open to everyone – not just workplaces.

If you are caring for someone at home, you are very welcome.

These sessions are a safe and supportive space where people can learn, ask questions, share experiences, and realise they are not alone.

Patient handling is not only about technique.

It’s about protecting your own body, caring with dignity, and building confidence.

The course is 3–4 hours long and costs only €60, and it can make a real difference in everyday life.

Sometimes learning a practical skill is also a way of connecting with others who understand the journey.

If this might help you or someone you know, you are very welcome to join us. 💙

Great morning delivering Cardiac First Response Training at Bennys Deli in Castlerea 🙌

What a fantastic local business that truly supports other businesses and takes responsibility seriously. Today we learned life-saving skills, shared real experiences, asked honest questions – and yes, we laughed a lot too 😊

That’s the beauty of small group training: open communication, connection, and genuine learning. It’s powerful to see a restaurant investing in First Aid training for their team – not just serving great food, but making sure their staff are ready to help if it’s ever needed.

And a little side note… highly recommend the sandwiches 🥪✨
Food for the tummy – and today, food for the soul.

If you’re visiting, you’re not just in good hands for delicious, sustainable food – you’re in safe hands too. 👏

☕🇮🇪 A little coffee break & cúpla focal…

Two things I’m loving at the moment — good coffee and learning Irish.

An Comórtas Cúpla Focal Ros Comáin is such a lovely local idea, supported by brilliant businesses like Newsround, Molloy’s Bakery, Best for Baby, District Coffee, German Ballet School, Roscommon Leisure Centre, McGuinness Pharmacy, Bannon’s Sports, Walsh’s Service Station, Roadside Barbers, Rummage, Heines Pharmacy, Roscommon Library, Cormican’s — just to name a few.

I’d really recommend getting involved:
✨ Learn a few Irish phrases
✨ Pick up your stickers
✨ Enter the draw
✨ Support local

It’s a simple, positive way to keep things local and celebrate our community.

Now I’m on my way to deliver a Cardiac First Responder (CFR) course for a local restaurant — just a 4-hour session, short and sweet, but packed with lifesaving skills:

❤️ CPR done correctly
❤️ Recognising heart attack & stroke
❤️ Managing choking
❤️ Using an AED with confidence

I love these sessions — practical, empowering, and so important.

First though… coffee to go and safe travels to Castlerea🚗☕

Slán go fóill!

🚨 Do you know the signs of a heart attack?
Chest pain isn’t the only symptom.

Chest pain isn’t the only symptom.

A heart attack can also include:
• Pain spreading to arms, jaw, neck or back
• Shortness of breath
• Sweating
• Feeling dizzy
• Nausea
• In women — it can feel like indigestion

⚠️ If you suspect a heart attack:
📞 Call 112 or 999 immediately
💊 Chew 300mg aspirin (if no allergy, no bleeding disorders, no ulcers, over 16)

Knowing the signs could save a life — at home, at work, or in your community.
