Aiseiri

Aiseiri Aiséirí is a nonprofit organisation that helps youths, adults and families to overcome addiction.

At the heart of Aiséirí are the lives and futures of people, young people, women, middle-aged men, fathers, brothers, sisters, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. Ordinary people, people that you and I know, people who want to work, want to go to school, want to hope, want to care for their families and be cared for. The one thing that distinguishes them is that they are living with the despair and unhappiness of addiction. Aiséiri is a place where there is a wealth of understanding, care and experience, right here in the community, that can help them take the first vital step to recovery from their addiction. Airéirí means resurrection and our four centres are places of new beginnings. Through our evidence-based and internationally recognised residential and community programmes, people dealing with alcohol, drug and gambling addiction find help, counselling and the specialist support that they need to face the realities of their lives. Our specialist and caring staff create an environment that is therapeutic in all aspects, where each person feels valued, safe and supported as they make their journey towards recovery and new life changes.

Thought for the Day 🌅

Starting the day with a few quiet moments can bring strength, clarity, and peace. When we take time each morning for reflection or prayer, we remind ourselves that we are not alone in the challenges we face. Throughout the day, that quiet strength can guide us—especially during difficult moments.

By listening to others, supporting one another, and taking time for quiet reflection, our faith and resilience can grow stronger day by day.

Reflection:
Have I trusted God to guide me through my struggles today?

Meditation:
Sometimes the beauty of God’s presence is reflected through the character of those around us. When we see kindness, patience, and compassion in others, it reminds us of the goodness we can also bring into the world. Look for that beauty of character today—and let it inspire your own actions.

Prayer:
May I learn from the goodness in others.
May their strength and character inspire my own.
And may I reflect that same kindness and compassion in my life today. 🙏

Every so often, it’s worth pausing to remember the kindnesses others have shown us.

The neighbour who helped get a kite out of a tree.
The sibling who stayed up late helping finish a school project.
The small acts that meant more than we realised at the time.

When we remember those moments, we also remember how good it felt to receive that kindness.

Today, someone around us might need the same from us.
A neighbour who’s unwell and needs groceries.
A family member who needs a hand.
An older person nearby who could use a bit of help with the garden.

Kindness has a way of coming back to us—like a boomerang—often in the form of unexpected happiness.

💛 Today I’m asking myself:
Will I be alert to the chances I have to show kindness?

The masks men wear are as varied as those who wear them, but their purpose is quite simple. We wear masks to hide our real faces from those around us and even from ourselves. There are seductive masks, innocent masks, white knight masks, tough guy masks, black sheep masks, lone wolf masks, and many more. Sometimes we want to take on another identity so others won't see our insecurities. Or we think taking the form of someone else will give us power over others, or they will like us better, or we can escape ourselves.

The cost of wearing a mask is not getting a chance to develop our real personalities. What masks are we attached to? Are we willing to give them up in the interest of our spiritual growth?

May I have the courage to drop my phony masks in order to grow stronger in self-knowledge.

This practical resource was co-created with programme participants and includes simple tools to support budgeting, saving, decision-making and building confidence around money management. It’s designed to help people take small, practical steps towards better financial wellbeing. Well done to the men and women of Aiseiri Waterford to took part in this project.

Thought for the Day

It can be difficult for some to believe in a Power greater than themselves. But many of us in recovery know what it feels like to be powerless. Alcohol was certainly a power greater than me. I was helpless before it, and I still remember the consequences of that power in my life.

Recovery teaches us that while addiction can feel all-powerful, healing is stronger. The spiritual and moral gradually overcome the material and harmful. This happens through faith, fellowship, and service.

When we come together in honesty and support, real change is possible — not just personally, but in the wider world.

Prayer for Today
May I do my share in making the world a better place.
May I be part of the solution to the ills around me.

Our spiritual awakening is partly a process of becoming real. We're moving from the external controls of image and others' opinions to the internal controls of honesty, listening to our inner voice, and having true relationships. We are shedding the games that maintained our old style of life - "macho" or "hero" or "poor me."

In place of the old phony surface, we are developing a real relationship with ourselves. We are becoming more aware - of emotions, of need for rest, of violations of our values. Sometimes change comes in a flash of insight or a moment of sudden, piercing awareness, but more often it comes a little bit at a time. As we work the Steps, as we are true to our inner voice, as we keep returning to conscious contact with our Higher Power, as we get closer to our friends, we become more real to ourselves.

As I grow, I see that I was always real. I was just looking at the outside.

Disguised
By a past client

You came disguised as comfort,
An escape when life got tough.
Numbing the pain and anger
When I felt I'd had enough.

You stepped forward like a friend,
But letting you in
Was the beginning of the end.

I fell in love with the highs,
Ignored the crushing lows,
Put you above the ones I loved
And couldn’t let you go.

You brought me to my knees —
I didn’t recognise myself.
I hit my rock bottom
And knew I needed help.

Admitting I was powerless
Was the key to setting me free.
One day at a time
I took back control of me.

Your voice is only an echo now,
But I stay aware and strong.
You don’t own me any longer —
I’ve healed. I’ve come back strong.

Recovery begins when silence ends.

Once there was a little girl learning to walk.

Every time she wobbled, every time she was about to fall, her mother rushed in to catch her.

She thought she was protecting her.

But the little girl couldn’t learn to walk if she never fell.

She was too small to explain that falling was part of the process. That scraped knees aren’t failures — they’re teachers. That getting back up builds strength far more than never falling at all.

Sometimes, in trying to protect the people we love, we accidentally protect them from the very lessons that would help them grow.

Of course, we don’t let each other get seriously hurt. But growth requires space. Trust. The freedom to stumble. The chance to rise again.

Falling doesn’t mean we’re fragile.
Getting back up proves we’re not.

So today, instead of fearing the wobble, maybe we can welcome it.

✨ What might I learn from my little stumbles today?

Thought for the Day 🌅

There was a time when alcohol felt like my friend. Most of my fun revolved around drinking. But somewhere along the way, it turned against me. Trouble replaced laughter, and I realised something had changed. Today, I understand that my main business is staying sober. Everything else — work, home, responsibilities — comes second. When I protect my sobriety, I protect my life.

Meditation & Prayer 🙏

I trust that God will give me the strength I need to face today. I ask only for faith and courage to meet each moment sober, steady, and supported.
