The “Why” Behind My Work!
People often ask where my inspiration comes from…It always comes back to home.
Growing up on a small farm in rural Ireland shaped everything I create — the characters, the animals, the land, the stories woven into Irish history. I feel a constant pull to explore the essence of who we are and express that on canvas.
I’m especially drawn to old black-and-white photographs, quiet, frozen moments in time. I love reimagining them in bold, unexpected colour and texture breathing new life into the past and bridging it with the present.
Colour is everything to me. Heavy texture. Palette knife layers. Oils & cold wax. Acrylic built up with feeling. Colour brings emotion. Identity. Life. It says what words sometimes can’t.
I’m always learning, refining, evolving - but the heart of it stays the same:
I want my work to reconnect us with who we are. To celebrate Ireland — our resilience, warmth, humour and land and in the world we’re living in today, I think we need that more than ever.
