Today can bring up lots of feelings — and all of them are valid 💕This Valentine’s Day, be gentle with yourself and remember: you deserve the same care and compassion you give to others.

This is me.
Grey hairs. Lines. A few stories written across my face.

For a long time I thought confidence meant looking a certain way. Now I know it means feeling at ease with who you are.
I’m grateful to say I feel more at home in myself than ever -not despite the years, but because of them.

Growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes it’s simply learning to truly accept and love who you are.

❤️ Let's show some love for number one this Valentines day ❤️

Every Version of Me

I am not proud of who I have become.
I am proud of every version of myself.

The little girl
who was constantly sad and scared,
lonely and broken,
trying to make sense of a world
that didn’t feel safe.

The teenager
who was traumatised
and tried so hard to be liked,
who learned to shrink and bend
just to belong somewhere.

The young adult
who was strong and capable
but used and abused,
who kept going even when love
kept hurting her.
I am so proud that she didn’t give up.
At times she wanted to.
Once she almost did.

I am proud of the woman
who stayed when she felt unable and who survived anyway and didn't give up on love.
I am proud of the mother
who kept choosing her children
over her own exhaustion.
I am proud of the woman
who kept learning,
kept healing,
kept softening
instead of hardening.

I am not proud of who I have become
as if she replaced the others.

I am proud of every version of me
that refused to disappear.

Writing my thesis on disenfranchised (unacknowledged) grief gave me more insight into the complexity of human loss. Grief isn’t always obvious, isn’t always shared, and doesn’t follow a single path. Each experience is deeply personal, and even losses that go unrecognised deserve space, compassion, and acknowledgment.

National Grief Awareness Week

Grief is as unique to an individual as their fingerprint. There is no one right way to grieve, and no two people’s reactions will be the same. For bereavement supports, visit ’s Bereavement Hub 👉 bereaved.ie

Myth: Older people are more prepared to cope with grief because they are more likely to have more experience of it.

Fact: People do not simply ‘get over’ their grief but over time find ways to accommodate their grief within their lives.

Do you feel anxious or depressed? Perhaps life feels too heavy right now, or you’re unsure how to move forward.
Psychotherapy offers a safe, confidential space to pause, reflect, and make sense of what’s going on for you.
You don’t have to do this alone. Making space for your mental health is a powerful step towards greater clarity, balance, and wellbeing.
