I often get asked if remedies can help adults with ADHD/ ADD too so I'd like to share ​a story with you. It also continues on nicely from my previous hormonal posts. For women with ADHD hormonal imbalance is often part of the picture.

A 31-year-old woman ​came to see me with tremendous anxiety which woke her up at 3/ 4am every morning. Once she started panicking she couldn't calm herself down.​ She felt that her ADHD symptoms were causing her anxiety. She had a tendency to forget things and was always late for everything. She constantly felt behind. She would go into a state of panic if she felt like she had forgotten something. She would write ​lists but misplace them,​ and set reminders on her phone but end up ignoring them​. She was in a constant state of overwhelm. Everything seemed hard, she couldn't look forward to anything. Any task that involved executive functioning was stressful for her. She wished she had the motivation to do the things on her list to reduce her feelings of anxiety.

​She felt worse before her menstrual cycle, and wondered if she suffered from PMDD. She had a significant history of contraceptive use which caused feelings of depression​ in the past.​ Sarah was prone to deep depression. She did​n't feel like going out and doing things with her husband, she didn't want to be social. She felt like she had a dark cloud above her. Her depression was a mixture of overwhelm, guilt, and deep sadness.

Her biggest wish was to return to being more easygoing, having the motivation to go for a walk and spend time in nature, be able to enjoy dates with her husband again, and not be paralyzed by anxiety. She also wanted to be more organized, and not leave things until the last minute.

At ​her first follow-up she said 'it's like a day and night difference, this is how I used to feel', 'my anxiety levels are really good'.

The state of panic was less frequent.

Regarding the depression she felt as if a weight had been lifted. The weight on her chest and dark cloud feeling was gone.

'Guilty feelings still pop up but I have strategies to prevent it'. She had started using EFT a lot more, and meditating.

In the past she would not do things at all if she couldn't do them 100%. S​he felt like she had loosened up on her perfectionism.

​Her motivation ​is better. She started going out on dates with her husband again. She was much less anxious to leave her kids.

'I'm thinking a lot clearer'.

At her third appointment after two HDT courses -

She said her brain fog ha​d improved alot, she was having no panic attacks,and she hadmore focus and energy to get stuff done. There has been a 70% improvement with PMS. She still feels a little down before her period but she doesn't wallow in it like before, and she no longer gets angry.

Listing her before/ after scores so you can see how far she progressed. 0 = best, 6 = worst:

ADD - managing to follow routines, and keep on top of tasks has gone from a 6 to 0.
Anxiety has gone from 6 to 0.
Depression has gone from 5 to 1.

Amazing the transformation that can take place with just 2 HDT prescriptions!

I work with many children and moms in my practice. More often than not the moms I work with need help rebalancing their hormones.

When I started working with this 47 year old mom she wanted help for post-menopausal weight gain, parenting stress that resulted in feelings of anger, frustration and hopelessness, low libido, frequent hot flushes, and panic attacks.

Going through her history and compiling a timeline I could see there were many different exposures that disrupted her hormonal imbalance throughout her life. In such cases it's a matter of working through each layer one-by-one.

After her first two HDT courses and the remedy Sepia (3-4 months into treatment) she already felt a reduction in anxiety and anger, and said she felt calmer. Panic attacks were happening less often, and were milder. Hot flushes had reduced dramatically. She used to get them every day and now wasn't really having any. Her libido had also increased.

Even though her anxiety and overwhelm was better. In some ways she felt like it was worse due to work worry and stress. I changed her remedy to Arsenicum, and continued to address the hormonal imbalance with HDT courses. She really wanted help with the weight gain because no matter what she tried she couldn't loose weight and keep it off.

Arsenicum really helped her anxiety levels. The difficulty breathing and heaviness on her chest when she was anxious was better. It was a lot easier to keep her focus with kids. She was better able to keep calm and have a conversation with her kids. Getting them out in the morning and dinner time was less stressful.

Ater her next HDT course and continuing with Arsenicum she felt a lot calmer and had lost 10 lbs. I had recommended the brilliant book by Dr. Mindy Pelz - 'Fast Like a Girl: A Woman’s Guide to Using the Healing Power of Fasting to Burn Fat, Boost Energy, and Balance Hormones', which she diligently started to incorporate.

So much healing has happened in the first year, but our work together is not complete. There's several courses and areas we haven't addressed yet which I think will benefit her greatly, and continue to balance her endocrine system and help improve the level of her overall health.

I'm sharing this story because I know so many of us moms struggle with similar symptoms and parenting stress. Often we place greater priority on our kids' health journey, and put our needs to the side. When moms are well and balanced the whole family has a better chance of being well too ❤

I started working with this 18 year old young man 20 months ago. His mother wanted to help him get balanced and well before leaving home for college. The main reason for the visit was his weight gain, bloating, digestive issues, terrible seasonal allergies, and low testosterone.

When he was a young boy he was very emotionally dysregulated. He had auditory sensitivity. He was obsessed with food and ate all the time. Around age 3 his preschool teacher and the speech therapist had concerns that he 'wasn't paying attention', and she thought he might be on the autism spectrum.

When he was 9 years old his brother was diagnosed with PANS/ PANDAS. His mother decided to do testing for him too because she suspected he also had some immune issue (even though he had no symptoms of PANS). His labs showed serious issues with detoxification and immune function. He had hypothyroidism, lots of chronic virus and bacterial infections, low SIgA, low IgA, IgG, elevated strep, HHV6 titers, high urinary porphyrins, gut dysbiosis, heavy metal toxicity, and significantly elevated Aspergillis (mold).

They tried every supplement regimen possible for him. Essential oils, herbs, vitamins/minerals, amino acids, high-dose Vitamin C, and ionic footbath. His labs improved greatly over the years. Classical homeopathy helped but had not fully resolved his urgency/loose stools, perseveration, and seasonal allergies.

When I started to work with him he also needed help with morning nausea, stomach cramps, very rapid weight gain despite eating normally, burping/ flatulence, low testosterone, gynecomastia, allergies, noise sensitivity/auditory overload, easy perspiration, dwelling on the past, easily upset over perceived injustice, and red patches on face.

The HDT method has been hugely beneficial for this young man. His mom was dedicated to helping him improve his level of health before he left home, and committed to regular treatment over 20 months. He completed 7 HDT courses* (see comments) which helped rebalance his endocrine system, immune system and his gut. His Testosterone levels increased over 50%, his allergies cleared up, he lost weight, he stopped overeating, loose stools resolved and he was doing well emotionally heading off to college.

I'm going to share a few hormonal cases to demonstrate how effective HDT* is at restoring balance to the endocrine system. I'm continually amazed by the results I see in clinic, and would like to share some of what I see because these days hormonal imbalance seems to be the norm, but there's things we can do to help once we identify the root causes.

I started working with this young girl when she was 8 years old. Her mom was concerned about her early puberty, poor sleep, anger / frustration, school aversion, separation anxiety, defiance, too much screen/ phone time, and recurrent tonsillitis/ strep throat.

All of these areas improved once we got her on a good constitutional remedy and addressed the potential reasons for her hormonal imbalance with HDT* (see comments). Within 4 courses her doctor was perplexed by the changes, and commented that her puberty development had paused. Her mom was delighted. This was in 2023. As you can see from her mothers recent feedback the benefits gained from rebalancing her endocrine system were longstanding, and continue until today.

Some nice words on gently supporting our kids through anxious moments 🌱

The only way through anxiety is straight through the middle. This is because the part of the brain responsible for anxiety - the amygdala - is one of the most primitive parts of the brain, and it only learns through experience.

The goal is for kids to recognise that they can feel anxious and do brave. They don't have to wait for their anxiety to disappear, and they don't need to disappear themselves, or avoid the things that matter to them, in order to feel safe.

There is always going to be anxiety. Think about the last time you did something brave, or hard, or new, or something that was important to you. How did you feel just before it? Maybe stressed? Nervous? Terrified? Overwhelmed? All of these are different words for the experience of anxiety. Most likely you didn't avoid those things. Most likely, you moved with the anxiety towards those brave, hard, things.

This is what courage feels like. It feels trembly, and uncertain, and small. Courage isn't about outcome. It's about process. It's about handling the discomfort of anxiety enough as we move towards the wanted thing. It's about moving our feet forward while everything inside is trembling.

To support them through anxiety, Honour the feeling, and make space for the brave. 'I know how big this is for you, and I know you can do this. I'm here for you. We'll do this together.'

We want our kiddos to know that anxiety doesn't mean there is something wrong with them, or that something bad is about to happen - even though it will feel that way.

Most often, anxiety is a sign that they are about to do something brave or important. With the amygdala being the ancient little pony that it is, it won't hear us when we tell our kiddos that they can do hard things. We need to show them.

The 'showing' doesn't have to happen all at once. We can do it little by little - like getting into cold water, one little step at a time, until the amygdala feels safe.

It doesn't matter how long this takes, or how small the steps are. What matters is that they feel supported and cared for as they take the steps, and that the steps are forward.❤️

This time 20 years ago I graduated with a BSc (hons) degree in Homeopathy from the University of Westminster in London. Two decades of fascinating learning, growth and healing! I can't wait to see where the next 20 will take me.

I really couldn't have done it without my mom. She introduced me to homeopathy around the time I was figuring out what I wanted to be. Little did she know she would influence me to become a homeopath one day. She also inspired me to work with people with neurodevelopmental conditions as she did similar work when I was growing up. She believed in me every step of the way.
