I thought I needed to do a little post for the grid as to the “why” I do what I do! And what brought me here.
Initially I began with baby massage courses because I had two little people and where I was living had no mum and baby classes. So I decided to offer them! I then trained in toddler yoga and taught private classes and also in preschools.
After a while though, I began reflecting on the two births that I had in short succession. And how different they had been to one another. And how that difference had affected me and my babies. And so decided I wanted more. So I did a lot of research and decided I need to train in pregnancy and mum and baby yoga with The Elbowroom. And this training was transformational! I learned so much more than just yoga! I learned about choice, about being informed and about how to have the birth you choose. Soon after this I did my 200hrYTT, to gain a deeper understanding of the workings of the body and movement.
Another baby in 2015 meant life was chaotic, crazy, busy and amazing all at the same time! We moved again, this time with change of schools for the older two. So I paused teaching. I continued to learn, and to read. We welcomed another baby, our last, in 2019. I qualified in reflexology, hypnobirthing and did an advanced pregnancy teacher training. I returned to teaching, with a deeper understanding of birth, of the maternity system. Of how it is not woman or baby centred.
And with a deeper understanding of myself. Which is why after a number of years of people saying I should become a doula, I finally did. Again I researched and I knew that learning under the guidance of Krysia Lynch would be everything. And it was! We went deep, learned so much about birth but also about ourselves. That training healed me from my own negative experiences within the maternity system.
I continue to learn - massage exams are only two weeks away, and 3 Step Rewind training starts next week! Once you are in this work, it is all encompassing and you are forever a student - continuously learning so that you can be better!
My work is vital to my being, and my family - Alan and the family we have created - are the reason for my being
