After years of working as a birth doula, I took a grief educators course to deepen my understanding of grief and its impact on birth.
During the course, I realized how I had once failed a client. Years earlier, a mother I supported called me crying after her C-section. I told her that sometimes a C-section is what keeps both mother and baby safe—but I completely missed what she needed: space to grieve the loss of her planned birth and validation that her feelings were real.
Not all C-section mothers grieve, but some deeply do.
That realization led me to focus on supporting women and couples through baby loss, traumatic births, and subsequent pregnancies after trauma.
Grief and past loss often surface again in later births, requiring doulas to expand their tools and awareness.
I’m offering an 8-hour workshop for birth doulas to explore the effects of grief and trauma and learn how to better support birthing couples.
Expand your toolbox, your language, and your capacity to hold space for those in need. Join me to elevate your doula practice.
