Parshat Tetzaveh is one of my favorite weekly portions. It discusses the garments worn by the Kohen Gadol (High Priest), including the Avnei HaHoshen — the 12 precious stones that were worn on the Kohen Gadol's breastplate.
Rabbeinu Bechaye, a 13th-century Spanish Kabbalist, teaches in his commentary that "there is no stone among the precious stones that will not bring down power from the supernal world." ✨
This powerful insight highlights how these stones, which we refer to today as crystals or gemstones, carry special energy from the higher realms. Even in the Talmud, dating back to around the year 500, we see mention of the Even Tekuma (carnelian), which was used to help prevent miscarriage. This shows us that 1500 years ago, crystals were already being used for healing in Jewish tradition. 💎
I share these teachings in my webinars because I understand how important it is to feel confident that the crystals we use are "kosher." It is also so meaningful to know that these beautiful creations of Hashem hold such deep significance and power.
This week, I learned something new that I’m excited to share: In Parshat Tetzaveh (Shemot 28:2), Hashem commands Moses to create special garments for Aaron (the High Priest) to wear during his service in the Mishkan (Tabernacle). These garments were designed to honor Aaron and reflect the sanctity of his role.
"ועשית בגדי קודש לאהרון אחיך לכבוד ולתפארת"
"And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for glory and for beauty."
The Kohen Gadol’s garments were meant to inspire respect and honor. Kavod (honor) is external—it impacts others through the impression it creates. This was reflected in the gold garments he wore. But the Tzitz (gold plate on his forehead) and the Hoshen Mishpat, adorned with the Avnei HaHoshen (the 12 stones), also played a crucial role. These stones shimmer and reflect both inner and outer qualities, symbolizing the neshama (soul), something internal which reflects externally. This is the essence of the quality of Tiferet - internal beauty and kindness.
When I learned this, I was thrilled because it directly connects to what I see when people choose their crystals. Just as the Hoshen, embedded with 12 stones, reflects the inner being and neshama of the Kohen Gadol, so too does one's choice of stones reflect their inner being. Thus, through a person's choice of crystals we gain a deeper understanding of the root cause of challenges a person may be facing and we are then able (with crystals of course) to help guide the healing process. 🌿💎

Beyond the crystals in Tucson there were the meetings with special people along the way. These include Talya Simcha who invited a group of people to her home in order to discover the Jewish connection to crystals, Mina Rose who hosted me so amazingly and I absolutely loved staying with her, Kathleen Friend whom I have known for a few years and was so thrilled to meet in person and the amazing Sara Heisler who through my dear friend Yaffa Meyers pulled the lovely evening together.

So many people, so much warmth, so much interest and a truly incredible opportunity to meet these people, along with my new crystal buddies in Tucson.
