Nepal Rising - Seattle

Nepal Rising - Seattle Seattle chapter of global Nepal Rising campaign. We are a community of both Nepalis and those of other nationalities united by our love for Nepal.

We want to help rebuild Nepal, share ideas and strengthen our bonds together. Our vision is to help Nepal over the long-haul. We are the Seattle chapter of the global Nepal Rising campaign. Let's join our hands, hearts and minds together to support Nepal to RISE AGAIN! STRONGER and UNITED! All donations to Nepal Rising Seattle is 100% tax-exempt in the US. We are involved in 3 key areas of Relief, Rebuilding and Resilience as follows:

Rebuilding: School Reconstruction
Nepal Rising Seattle is partnering with Volunteer Nepal National Group (VolNepal) in rebuilding demolished schools in quake-hit Nuwakot district working in collaboration with the local community and governing bodies. VolNepal is a Nepal based non-profit organization that has been doing incredible work since 2005 and has been focusing its efforts on rebuilding schools and communities that have been impacted by the earthquake. We currently have two schools construction projects in progress - Neel Saraswoti Lower Secondary School and Sita Secondary School. Resilience: Community Farming
We are partnering with N-Agro to support community farming with the Sakchyam: Seeds of Life initiative to provide greenhouses, improved seeds and farming technology to yield more than 1.5 tonnes of vegetables harvests in a year to improve food security and nutrition to earthquake-impacted families. We currently have two community farming projects in progress - Suryamati VDC, Nuwakot and Dakshinkali VDC. Resilience: Women Entrepreneurship
Nepal Rising Seattle is supporting women entrepreneurs to help expand their businesses and create bigger economic ripple effects across their communities. We are partnering with NR affiliate Daayitwa in the Women Rural Entrepreneurship Acceleration Project (WREAP) in Palpa. Resilience: Community Development
Nepal Rising Seattle is partnering with Living Earth Institute (LEI) to provide clean water wells and build family toilets in rural communities in Bara district. LEI has already built over 600 family toilets in Rampurwa VDC in Bara and declared it open-defecation free (ODF). It is a true statement that without sanitation, there can be no clean water! Relief: Medication and Winterization
Nepal Rising Seattle supports communities in times of severe need and to build resilience. During the medical crisis due to the blockade in early 2016, we provided essential medical supplies to several remote districts of Nepal through partnership with Medication for Nepal group. We also partner with One Suitcase campaign to distribute winter clothing to needy children. Please visit our website at http://nepalrising.org/seattle for more information and updates.

The Mushar community residing in Sarsa, near Janakpur, is one of the most marginalized communities in Nepal. Although they face extreme discrimination, extreme poverty, and a 95+% illiteracy rate, their strength and spirit are inspiring.

In partnership with Pramadaya Nepal and People Promote Center (PPC), we at Nepal Rising Seattle have been working to support the Mushar families in Dhanushadham Municipality, Ward No 3 Sarsa, providing health insurance and support for education.

In December last year, we launched the Economic Empowerment program for Mushar women, seeking to provide entrepreneurship opportunities to 14 trailblazers with the community of 42 women.

On the occasion of her 15th birthday, our own Raina Tuladhar from Woodinville, WA, along with her younger sister, Vedah, organized a birthday fundraiser, raising more than $2600 altogether, to support 7 of these entrepreneurial Mushar women, helping launch their journey of hope and empowerment.

Vedah and her mom, Raksha Pant Tuladhar, recently visited the Mushar community in Sarsa for first-hand account of their situation and the status of the project.

They describe meeting these women and their families was a deeply moving experience. Their smiles, their stories, their resilience, it’s something they will carry forever.

What an amazing way to instill values in our children and create life-changing moments for both the marginalized communities and the next generation. Kudos to Raina and Vedah for stepping up to make a difference in the lives of others at such a young age!

Let’s keep showing up for those who need us most. Big gratitude to all of you who supported Raina and Vedah.
