As part of our advanced training in Guided Imagery in Music (GIM), a number of colleagues and I are looking for interested folks who would like to participate as clients, using music listening to explore their inner worlds.

Candidates should be looking to address issues in therapy, but not currently in acute crisis, and must be able to commit to 25 weekly online sessions, 75-90 minutes each.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone who is interested in trying out a more experiential, less talk-based form of therapy, and is in need of a significantly reduced fee for private-pay therapy.

If you're interested or know someone who is, just reach out to me at alhobermanlcat@gmail.com, or my website, www.soundbalancetherapy.com

Lately, in addition to my therapy work, I’ve been having a blast doing some behind-the-scenes editing and production for some fantastic therapy- and mental health-related podcasts. This week I stepped out in front of the microphone to chat with and interview my dear friend and colleage Rebecca Wong, host of the Connectfulness Practice Podcast, about all things relationships, from practicing loving boundaries, to “feeling ready,” generational trauma (and resilience!), and the power of embracing the awkward moments.

We had a ton of fun recording this episode, and we hope you’ll enjoy listening to it too! If you’d like to hear more of like this, send us some questions for us to unpack together next time! You can email us at podcast@connectfulness.com or get in touch with me directly at alhobermanlcat@gmail.com or on my website, https://alhoberman.com/contact

Enjoy!

"Trauma isn't what happens TO you, trauma is what happens INSIDE you."

I spend a lot of time with my clients helping them to pay attention to gut feelings and learn to honor them as authentic, non-negotiable needs. Here, Gabor Maté brilliantly explains what it is we mean when we talk about childhood trauma, and what that has to do with problems like addiction later in life.

Have you ever had a song you couldn't stop listening to? Chances are, there was a pretty good reason. What would happen if you let yourself dive right in?

When I was a kid I knew someone who would make mixtapes of just the same song, as many times as could fit, so that he could listen to it all day. This was just in the last years of the Sony Walkman, before CD players took over, and repeat buttons changed the game. But at that time, to manually rewin

Are you getting down on yourself for not keeping up with that perfect self-care routine?

Let's talk about self-kindness instead.

Ok, maybe don’t forget about it completely. Doing things that keep your mind and body feeling good is important, generally speaking. If you’re just focused on doing , then it can be pretty easy to get really un kind to yourself, if you feel like you’re not doing enough of the right things. So ...

With all of the discussion of using music in Telehealth, I wanted to share these two resources that I've created, demonstrating how I use multi-track recording over Zoom in a Music Psychotherapy context. I hope this can be helpful to other music therapists out there - please let me know what you think!

Spread the word, and sign up to share a daily report to help researchers gather data on the spread of COVID-19 in NYC. The more people participate, the more knowledge we can have!

To stop COVID-19, we need to learn more about it. Mount Sinai researchers are tracking COVID-19 across New York City with STOP COVID NYC. The app uses web-based surveys to collect data from New Yorkers. It asks questions about demographics, symptoms, exposure history, and risk factors. Our goal is t...
