"Anyone who observes the rules of health will not need to knock the doors of doctors from
day to day" ~M.K. Gandhi
Grateful to for this opportunity to do the comparative study of Six pillars of lifestyle medicine and Gandhian yogic and nature cure practices.
Gandhi ji was advocating wholefood plantbased lifestyle for human health, animals welfare and a sustainable world.
Mahatma Gandhi discussed in detail the drawbacks of consuming milk and meat in his book ―Key to Health.
Below are the excerpts from his book.
From Ahimsa and animals’ welfare point of view:
―In my opinion there are definite drawbacks in taking milk or meat. To get meat, we have to
kill. And we are certainly not entitled to any other milk except the mother‘s milk in our
infancy. Over and above the moral drawback, there are others, purely from the point of view
of health.‖
―While the necessity for avoiding milk in the interest of self-restraint was growing upon me, I
happened to come across some literature from Calcutta, describing the tortures to which cows
and buffaloes were subjected by their keepers.‖
For the sustainable world:
―Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.‖
―It may be said without any fear of exaggeration that to partake of sweetmeats and other
delicacies, in a country where the millions do not even get an ordinary full meal, is equivalent
to robbery.‖
―This shortage of greens and fruits is a slur on the administration of India. The villagers can
grow plenty of green vegetables if they wish to.‖
