Cases of cardiac diseases related to heart valves are rising steadily in India at a time when novel minimally invasive treatment approaches have become available clinically.

One such procedure is the transcatheter aortic valve replacement, which is performed in patients with aortic stenosis or regurgitation which involve improper blood flow in the heart across the aortic valve. Since this channel is responsible for transporting oxygen-rich blood to the systemic organs, the aortic valve is an extremely critical disease condition that warrants prompt medical attention.

Posting after a long time, this time the attention is on children's health which has received far too many threats from novel antigens - particularly the novel adenovirus that has claimed infant lives in huge numbers recently.

There is another less talked about liver disease that poses a critical threat to the wellbeing of children up till the age of 14-15 years. A virus-borne liver disease that it is, hepatitis A jaundice, is a grave health concern for Indian children.

Timely vaccination against the disease goes a long way in controlling its incidence and alleviating the health of vulnerable populations.
