The Fact-
Oral Cancer is highly preventable & very easily detectable. But in contrast to this fact -
It is one of the most common cancers in India with high morbidity and mortality rates. Vision -Oral cancer is not a disease but a big social burden and our vision is to reduce the burden of oral cancer by effective work in all 4 fields of disease control i.e prevention, early detection, treatment and rehabilitation. Mission – Our mission is to conduct mass oral cancer screening programs that will not only make early detection & treatment of precancerous and cancerous lesions but also sensitize people regarding early detection of these lesions through self examination. Aim - Our aim is to develop an advanced, accurate and yet very affordable system of oral cancer screening that can be implemented even at rural and inaccessible areas and which can eventually achieve a mass oral cancer screening covering majority of the population.

On this day in 1917 a girl born in India later contributed her work in the subject of cancer during a time when technology was weak and unfavourable. And also during a time when girl education was not even primitive rather negative...

This simply proves that competency is existing at every time and in every situation, it just requires to be unmasked...and even now after 104 years this competency remains masked in many parts of our society...we just wish we and the society to perceive the fact and help to unmask it...

3 years back on this day NOCPI started the initiative "chalo sikhayein" as a social initiative for self examination of oral cavity...

Thanks to all who are a part of this initiative...

It's the involvement of all the dental surgeons that can reduce the burden of oral cancer in the society...

An irreparable loss in cancer perception and science. She was one of them who forecasted the aggressiveness of cancer progression about 5 decades back and emphasized the importance of prevention and early detection of cancer. Her thoughts will always guide us and her valuable feedbacks will always be remembered.

She is Dr V Shanta, renowned Indian oncologist and doyen of cancer care, passed away at the age of 93.

Prayers for her soul to rest in peace.

Missing the physical presence of Purnendu is a big loss to NOCPI...
