World Hospice & Palliative Care Day 2025 🌿

The Department of Palliative Medicine celebrated this special day with warmth, compassion, and community spirit. 💜

Invitees for the event included Cipla Foundation, Red Cross, and Palliative Peace. A highlight of the program was the inauguration of the Support Group for Patients & Caregivers, creating a safe space for sharing, strength, and mutual support.

A panel discussion with caregivers was held, offering insights, experiences, and guidance on the challenges and rewards of caregiving. Patients also shared their inspiring journeys, while children added joy with delightful dance performances. 🎶🌸

The department’s achievements from the past year were shared reflecting the team’s ongoing commitment to holistic care and patient well-being.

As a gesture of gratitude, tokens of appreciation were given to patients and caregivers. A total of 30 patients attended the event, making it a truly memorable celebration.

World Childhood Cancer Awareness Month – "Go Gold September"

In observance of World Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the Department of Medical Social Services and Paediatric Oncology organized a heartwarming and vibrant event under the global theme "Go Gold September" – a symbol of strength, resilience, and hope for children battling cancer.

To bring joy and smiles to the little warriors, a series of engaging fun-filled activities were held, including pot painting, a drawing competition, and interactive sessions designed to uplift the spirits of young patients. The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony, celebrating the courage of these children and sharing a moment of warmth and togetherness.

The celebration was graced by the Director Dr. Ashish Gulia along with Dr. Seema Gulia, Dr Jasmeet, Dr Mili with other dedicated doctors, medical staff, who joined hands to make the day truly special. It was a meaningful reminder of the importance of emotional support, creativity, and community in the journey of healing.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab is celebrating a major achievement: completing over 500 PETCT scans in a single month. PETCT is a key part of patient care, helping doctors determine the best treatment plan for managing diseases.

On this occasion, Director Dr. Ashish Gulia praised his colleagues in the Nuclear Medicine Department, calling it a significant milestone. He expressed hope that they would continue to work with the same dedication and reach new heights. Dr. Ashish Gulia added that HBCH&RC, Punjab is committed to providing the best possible care to all of its patients.

"With our state-of-the-art PETCT and SPECT/CT scanners, we are able to provide crucial information that helps our clinicians create personalized and effective treatment plans for every patient who walks through our doors." said Dr. Varun Shukla, the OIC of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine is equipped with one fully functional PETCT scanner, one SPECT/CT, and a six-bed high-dose radionuclide therapy ward.

The National Cancer Grid – Tata Memorial Centre EQuIP (Enable Quality and Improve Patient Care), under the able leadership of Dr. C.S. Pramesh (Director, TMH, Mumbai), course director Dr. Sarbani Ghosh Laskar (Professor, Radiation Oncology, TMH, Mumbai), and organised by Dr. Jayita Deodhar, Dr. Rahul Krishnatry (TMH, Mumbai) and Dr. Vidya Viswanath (HBCHRC, Vizag), successfully conducted a hands-on annual workshop on 6th September 2025 at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (HBCHRC), New Chandigarh.

The program brought together eminent national faculty and enthusiastic delegates, united by the common goal of advancing quality improvement in oncology care.

The workshop featured team-based presentations on pressing quality challenges in healthcare, followed by brainstorming sessions to identify practical and sustainable solutions. Its highly interactive format fostered dynamic exchanges between faculty and participants, with both in-person and online engagement ensuring inclusivity and wide participation.

The academic discourse was further enriched by the contributions of Dr. Raviteja Miriyala and Dr. Aveek Jayant (HBCH&RC, Vizag), as faculty, whose insights added depth and value to the discussions.

The program was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Ashish Gulia (Director, HBCH&RC, Punjab), and smoothly coordinated by Dr. Pragyat Thakur and Dr. Nagarjun Ballari, with strong support from the organising team.

The three-day Homi Bhabha Cancer Conclave (HBCC) 2025 at NMIMS, Chandigarh, witnessed a landmark moment with the inauguration of Robotic-Assisted Cancer Surgery at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre (HBCH&RC), Punjab, by Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Chandigarh Administrator, Shri Gulab Chand Kataria.
