An interesting case of gun shot injury. ( Dr Anshumali Misra / Dr Kanchana Batra )

Though there is no surgical feat , it is interesting because the bullet in the chest wall has not injured any major structure. This patient is extremely lucky. The bullet travelled through the scapula, fractured the second rib, travelled past pleura , below the subclavian vessels , punctured anterior intercostal muscles but not the vessels, and stopped in the deeper planes of the clavicular head of pectoralis major muscle. Went in with full preparation for GA, and CTVS team as stand by ( in case of intra op surprises ) , this bullet was removed under local anaesthesia with a 3 cm incision.

Post op MRI shows NO brachial plexus injury.

This patient is so lucky and God is great !!

Disaster Management: Kodungaiyur Burns Tragedy Apollo Hospital Chennai, Vanagaram has one of the best Burns Unit in South India in private sector. It was a Sunday morning when our team got a call from the Emergency about the disaster. There were 50 patients brought to ER by evening. 28 patients were admitted and others were treated on OPD basis. Dr Leela Praveen and myself did all the triaging created beds for the patients apart from those admitted in ICU and Burns Unit. Next few weeks went on treating and operating the patients Headed by Dr Ganapathy Krishnan sir. We gave our best until each patient was discharged. And our efforts did not go unnoticed !!
