Mindfulness Meditation relieves Pain - Harvard
Kabat-Zinn advises practicing the exercise every day for 45 minutes, even if it seems boring or doesn't seem to be helping. "You don't have to like it, you just have to do it," he explains in his book, Full Catastrophe Living: Using the Wisdom of Your Body and Mind to Face Stress, Pain, and Illness. "Whether you find the body scan to be very relaxing and interesting or difficult and uncomfortable or exasperating is irrelevant to whether it will serve you well."
The goal of the body scan is not to relieve the pain completely, but to get to know it and learn from it so you can manage it.
You can try the body scan technique by following these simple steps:
• Lie on your back or in any comfortable, outstretched position.
• Close your eyes and focus on your breathing. Feel your belly expanding gently when you inhale and receding when you exhale.
• Focus on your left foot. Feel any and all sensations in this area, including pain. Try to recede a little more into the floor every time you exhale.
• When your mind wanders, observe where it has gone and gently return your focus to the foot without judging yourself.
• If you notice pain, acknowledge it and any thoughts or emotions that accompany it, and gently breathe through it. See if by carefully observing the discomfort, you can help your body to relax. Don't expect the pain to abate; just watch it with a mindful but non-judging mind.
• Gradually, let go of the focus on your left foot completely—even if any pain there hasn't gone away or has intensified—and move on to the left ankle and repeat the process.
• Slowly and patiently, proceed this way throughout the body.

Elements that can help turn work into play:

Freedom. If you set your own schedule and are able to work on or learn about what you’re interested in and excited about, it can be play. If someone else tells you what to do and when, you won’t be as excited or interested or motivated.
Excitement. Again, follow your passions. Don’t be restrained. If something isn’t interesting, move on to something that is. Don’t force things.
Playing with others. While I like to play with myself, playing with others can be so much more fun sometimes. And yes, I know that sounds dirty. Read it as you like.
Pour yourself into it. You can skip from one thing to another, and that’s fine, but you might never accomplish anything that way. I find that when I get excited and really pour myself into a project, I can accomplish a lot and have a ton of fun doing it.

It’s not to say that if you focus on the happy and the good that you’ll never have an unhappy or bad day or moment. That’s not the case at all. Life is full of both ups and downs, and it’s important to embrace both the good and the bad in all their glory. And if you do focus on the greatness, it’s just going to get better. It’ll continue to manifest itself to you in one way or the other. Don’t, for once, take it for granted. Focus and keep feeling those feelings. Feel the feelings deep within yourself, down to your core.

Negative thoughts can be brushed aside, more freely than we realize. And pure love, forgiveness, healing, and faith can replace that negativity in a snap of a finger. If only we knew how simple it is to achieve these positive states.
