A 2024 study by the Agewell Foundation found that 14.3% of older adults in India live on their own.

Solo agers prefer this over traditional living because it means more independence, privacy, and personal space. 😌

While loneliness is still a challenge, seniors also care about the freedom to live their lives. 🙌

For some, this means ageing in place in their family homes. And, for some others, it's moving into retirement communities that offer both independence and connection.

The risk of dementia 🧠 can be reduced by around 40% through lifestyle changes. Social isolation is one such factor you can actually control.

Isolation becomes more common after age 65 due to factors like health changes and lack of purpose. That's why the social habits you build in your midlife (or even earlier) matter so much. 🤝

Volunteering probably doesn't spring to your mind as a form of self-care. 💆 But volunteering really is a simple and intentional act that helps you in more ways than one. 👐

Now, this might surprise you. Studies show people who volunteer have lower mortality rates than those who do not. This is even when controlling for age, gender and physical health. Isn't that amazing? 😮

The more we explore, the more we appreciate life. Your golden years aren't about doing mundane things just to fill your days.

Instead, focus on discovering what still excites you. 🤩 Maybe it's travelling to places you always wanted to see or trying the hobbies you never had time for.

The best part? You might surprise yourself with what you're capable of when you stay curious and explore.

I recently spoke with a representative from The Hogeweyk in the Netherlands — the world’s first dementia village — and what she shared truly reshaped how I think about ageing.

She explained how over 150 residents live in small homes of 6–7 people, each reflecting familiar lifestyles — from urban apartments to artisan homes, even Indonesian-inspired settings. There’s a supermarket, theatre, café, and salon, but no one calls it a facility. It’s simply home.

What struck me most was the design philosophy: staff don’t wear uniforms, and medical routines blend quietly into everyday life. It’s not about care being seen — it’s about care being felt.

Hogeweyk isn’t just innovative architecture; it’s emotional design — where safety meets autonomy and dignity leads to wellbeing.

It makes me wonder… could India create its own version of The Hogeweyk? A place where seniors don’t just live longer, but live freely — in an environment that feels like them. 🌱

Falls are one of the leading causes of disability among seniors. ⚠️ Yet, they are often brushed off as a consequence of normal ageing.

Many people experience falls annually, sometimes even multiple times a year. But is this really ageing, or are we missing something? 🤔

Swipe through to find out why falls happen and how you can keep yourself safe.

We all know care services need a personal touch.

Our elderly citizens deserve a future where they can be physically, emotionally, and socially healthy in their golden years. 🤍 This starts with open ears and building systems based on genuine care.

India needs this future where seniors live a fulfilling and dignified life on their own terms. ✨

Your heart is the first organ to develop in your body. It starts beating before you're born and right until your last moment.

When your heart gets inflamed or can't pump blood properly, your whole system is at risk. This could happen due to genetic factors or lifestyle choices.

As we mark World Heart Day, let's look at some symptoms of heart disease. When these alarms go off, talk to your doctor as soon as you can.

A report by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) revealed that the elderly in India will outnumber children aged 0 to 14 by 2046.

In fact, predictions show an even more startling trend. While India’s total population will increase by 18% from 2022 to 2050, its elderly population will jump 134%. To top it off, those aged 80 and above will see an even steeper rise of 279% at the same time.

It's high time we turn our attention to global ageing and take measures to better serve our senior citizens.

A dementia diagnosis of a family member is never easy news.

You're often thrown into a spiral, not knowing where to begin. This, coupled with intense emotions, can make you feel more overwhelmed.

Here are some first steps that can help you and your loved one deal with this together.

Not a leisurely walk or a run, but have you tried brisk walking?

The goal is to walk at least 100 steps a minute. Just fast enough to get your heart pumping but not enough that you're gasping for air.

Turns out this simple exercise is extremely good for our body and mind, whether it's for 10 minutes or 60 minutes a day.

Bonus Tip: Break your walks up throughout the day instead of one long session. Your body will thank you for not staying in one position too long.
