It is December and it is the month for awareness about TTTS
Twin to twin transfusion happens when in case of twins or higher order pregnancy, fetuses share their placentas or basically blood supply.

Apart from TTTS, such babies are at increased risk for TAPS, TRAP and sFGR.

Therefore in cases of monochorionic pregnancies serial scans are required to rule out any evolving complications and referring the patients to higher centre(fetal medicine) where treatments of such complicated pregnancies are available.

Let's talk about the number of scans required in pregnancy.
Atleast 4 scans should be done during the entire antenatal period.
1) Early pregnancy scan/ Viability scan
6-8 weeks
2)First trimester scan or NT/NB scan
11- 13 weeks 6 days
3) Anomaly scan or Level II scan
19-22 weeks
4) Growth scan or fetal well being scan
P.S. The frequency of scans might differ in particular situations.
