Bagh martial Father said "What are you upto son?" But he was silent. Father continued " Are you sure you want to pursue Medical. Are you CONFIRM for now."

This page is for the medical professionals who can learn Self defense not to harm others but to prevent any critical state which can harm them barring them to treat further with a good state of MIND. There are so many options which will make you EARN BETTER and EARLY. You have secured the best everywhere till now. He took a deep breath and said " Yeah Papa, I know it's a bit time consuming but from my childhood I have always seen that a profession which is respected the most is- MEDICAL. I want to pursue my future in this." Saying this he just walked to his room. The thin 18 years old boy was bold enough to take his decisions. He was a thin bookworm kind of guy who looks weak but was COURAGEOUS and STRONG enough to follow the path he had chosen. Time passed PMT...... MBBS...... Pre PG examination..... Then he became a RESIDENT DOCTOR.
6-7 years after his decision now he was out to serve the population which he wanted to. He was now working in the environment in which he wanted to. He was working 14-72 hours in a go many a times, without any leave or holidays. His home was his ward, His dining room was mess or many a times nursing station of his ward. His store for food was right side pocket of his Doctor's Coat. His bed was sometimes patient trolley sometimes ward table sometimes duty room. He worked a lot, was being polite most of the times with everyone. There were some bad days when the schedule was hectic, his seniors scolded him, his patients were not in good condition, he was depressed and irritated sometimes. He is also the same human being " THE HOMO SAPIENS". Once something happened who knows what it was
-"declaration of death", " referral for better treatment" or may be what people said "denial of treatment as he was not of the specialty for which treatment was to be given" HE WAS BEATEN BRUTALLY BY MOB. The nearby people who knew him and his work nobody came for his help. Everyone was a spectator, everyone was talking that this is not good but nobody step forward to help him to save him. The boy thereafter was admitted and there was sympathy all over, with strikes in the hospital, comments on news channels, different videos on social media. But the boy was beaten. His BELIEF for getting RESPECT FOR HIS WORK was broken. He had some grievous injuries and was advised not to practice his specialty branch in Medical Science anymore. His parents were broken there was no one to complaint. His father who was proud of his Son's decision was regretting why he allowed him to do so. Is this what should happen with a professional who works till his last breath to contribute in the society. Medical Assault is not limited to just doctors. Even other staffs like nurses and paramedics are also at a high risk of this. And the worst part is their stories are not even told. I am not here to give speech or to ask something from government or society. I am here to train you to HELP YOURSELF. Respect is still there in the society for our profession. But the patients attender who brings his patient to hospital is in a DEHUMANIZED STATE. And it will be same with you and me too. And also there are sometimes some nuisance creators. So in that state our safety is very important for now and for future too. It does not depend only on security provided but also on HOW MUCH YOU CAN DEFEND YOURSELF. DECIDE NOW HOW YOU WANT TO FEEL IN A CONDITION LIKE THAT
SCARED
OR
CONFIDENT?????

AIIMS doctors to get self-defence training
Durgesh Nandan Jha | Times Of India

HIGHLIGHTS
Starting May 15, the doctors will take self-defence classes from black belt champions in martial arts.
Two black belt champions will impart self-defence skills to interested candidates daily from 6-7pm and 7-8 pm at AIIMS.
In March, the AIIMS RDA had launched a unique protest by wearing helmets at work.

NEW DELHI: Faced with increasing violence by patients and their relatives, resident doctors of AIIMS have decided to take steps to protect themselves. Starting May 15, the doctors will take self-defence classes from black belt champions in martial arts, including taekwondo.

Dr Vijay Kumar, president of AIIMS Resident Doctors' Association, told TOI that the administration had permitted them to hold daily training classes at the hospital.

"Two black belt champions will impart self-defence skills to interested candidates daily from 6-7pm and 7-8 pm at AIIMS," Dr Kumar said. "Prevention is better than cure," he said, adding there was no point criticising lax security in the hospital or seeking justice once an attack had taken place.

Their counterparts at Lok Nayak Hospital and Lady Hardinge Medical College have already undergone similar training. "We were taught by Delhi Police personnel how to defend ourselves from aggressive attendants or evacuate safely in case of a dangerous situation," said Dr Yugal Karkhur, president of the RDA of Maulana Azad Medical College, to which LNH is attached. Delhi Police had held self-defence training at Lok Nayak at the request of the hospital's chief medical officer from April 5 to 17, Dr Karkhur said.

Dr Pankaj Solanki, who heads the federation of RDA's of all Delhi hospitals, said self-defence skills were needed by all doctors. "In the past one year, there have been four instances each of violence against doctors at AIIMS and Ambedkar hospital and three each at Lok Nayak, Guru Tegh Bahadur and Acharya Bhikshu," he said.

In March, the AIIMS RDA had launched a unique protest to display solidarity with the striking doctors of Maharashtra, who were agitating on the same issue, by wearing helmets at work.
"Self-defence is only way to stay safe in this violent atmosphere. Increasing security or deploying marshals doesn't really help much," said Dr Vivek Chauksey of Lady Hardinge Medical College, referring to the decision of Ram Manohar Lohia and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospitals to hire marshals to deal with attendants who misbehave or force themselves inside without permission. AIIMS had also written to CISF for security -a plan that did not take off.

Meanwhile, surveys show a significant increase in incidents of violence against doctors. Nearly one in every two doctors has faced violence at public hospitals, a survey conducted at MAMC had revealed. The study covered 169 junior residents and senior residents, working mostly at Lok Nayak and G B Pant -hospitals attached to MAMC. The respondents said verbal abuse (75%) was the most common form of violence, followed by threats (51%) and physical assault (12%).

Dr Vinod, general secretary of MAMC's Resident Doctors' Association, told TOI that violence continues to grow despite assurances from the government.

"It is humiliating and frustrating either to be beaten up or abused for no fault. If there is overcrowding or no ICU bed is available, how is the doctor to blame?" he said, adding that entry of visitors to hospitals must be restricted.

For hundreds of years (since Charaka, Sushruta and Hippocrates), patients have considered doctors as next to Gods. It is only since last few years that this equation has changed. The reasons are probably two-fold -
1) Erosion of standards of medical practice due to commercialisation. And this is at all levels - from the general practitioner who takes a 'cut' from the consultant's fees as 'referral charges' to the corporate hospitals who make the patient pay for every department they run.
2) Rising stress levels in the public at large. This finds sudden release when a traumatic event like death of a loved one causes an outburst on what is perceived as a soft target. If a 'Bhai' was running a hospital, such outbursts are probably less likely to occur.
What is the remedy? As with the cause, the cure is two-fold. Regulators have to frame strict laws to curb cut practice. And corporate hospital records have to be strictly audited for overinvestigation, overstay and overtreatment. Only then will the profession reclaim its noble tag...

_*MYTHS AND FACTS OF MEDICAL PRACTICE*_

*MYTH 1.*
MEDICAL PROFESSION IS A NOBLE PROFESSION

*FACT.*
EVERY PROFESSION, WHETHER OF A TEACHER, SOLDIER, TAILOR OR SHOPKEEPER, IS NOBLE, IF DONE WITH SINCERITY AND INTEGRITY.

A CARELESS DOCTOR CAN KILL ONE, A CARELESS TRAIN DRIVER CAN KILL DOZENS.

*MYTH 2.*
AS IT IS A SERVICE TO HUMANITY, DOCTORS SHOULD NOT RUN AFTER MONEY.

*FACT.*
MONEY IS AN IMPORTANT MEASURE OF SUCCESS. RUNNING AFTER IT IS NOT GOOD FOR ANYBODY, BUT EARNING MORE MONEY BY DOING MORE WORK IS NOT A MORAL CRIME.

*MYTH 3.*
DOCTORS MUST BE HUNDRED PERCENT HONEST.

*FACT.*
DOCTORS DO NOT COME FROM MARS. IF SUPREME COURT JUDGES OR ARMY GENERALS CAN BE CORRUPT, SO CAN A FEW DOCTORS.

AS A CLASS, THEY ARE STILL FAR BETTER THAN POLITICIANS, BUREAUCRATS, LAWYERS, POLICE OR PSU ENGINEERS.

*MYTH 4.*
MOST OF THE TIME, DOCTORS DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE DISEASE AND WRITE UNNECESAARY AND COSTLY DRUGS, AND ADVISE TESTS AND TREAT ON A TRIAL BASIS.

*FACT.*
DOCTOR PATIENT RELATIONSHIP IS BASED ON TRUST, IF YOU DO NOT TRUST YOUR DOCTOR, GO TO ANOTHER ONE.

MEDICAL SCIENCE IS A LIFE LONG LEARNING PROCESS, AND ALL TREATMENT, TO SOME EXTENT IS BASED ON TRIAL AND ERROR.

THE SAME MEDICINE, WHICH WORKS FOR ONE PATIENT MAY NOT WORK ON ANOTHER.

SECONDLY, THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROVIDING QUALITY DRUGS AT AFFORDABLE PRICES LIES NOT WITH THE DOCTOR, BUT WITH THE STATE AUTHORITIES, JUST LIKE PROVIDING FOR BETTER ROADS, UNADULTERATED QUALITY FOOD AND DAIRY PRODUCTS, UNINTERRUPTED POWER AND WATER SUPPLY ETC, ETC.

LIKE CLOTHES, CARS AND MOBILE PHONES, COSTLY DRUGS ARE GENERALLY BETTER THAN CHEAP ONES. HOWEVER, IF THE GOVERNMENT MAKES IT MANDATORY TO WRITE GENERICS, IT SHOULD ENSURE QUALITY, AND THE CONSEQUENCE OF POOR/NON EFFICACY SHOULD NOT BE BLAMED ON DOCTORS.

THIRD, TESTS ARE DONE FOR PATIENT’S OWN SAFETY.

JUST LIKE WEARING A HELMET OR SEAT BELT, INVESTIGATIONS INCREASE THE SAFETY.

MOST OF THE DOCTORS IN INDIA ARE TRAINED TO WORK ON CLINICAL HUNCH AND COMMON SENSE AND NOT RELY TOO MUCH ON TESTS, AND ADVISE MUCH LESS TESTS THAN WHAT IS ACTUALLY WRITEN IN THE BOOK OR DONE IN THE DEVELOPED WORLD.

*MYTH 5.*
TREAMENT COSTS ARE INCREASING IRRATIONALLY.

*FACT.*
COMPARED TO WESTERN WORLD, TREATMENT COSTS IN INDIA ARE STILL VERY LOW, AND MANY FORIEGNERS ARE COMING HERE FOR THIS REASON.

AND IT WOULD BE WORTHWHILE TO THINK ABOUT ANY OTHER SERVICE OR PRODUCT WITH AS RAPID ADVANCEMENT IN TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT AS MEDICAL SCIENCE, WHOSE COST IS NOT INCREASING

*MYTH 6.*
DOCTORS ARE NEXT TO GOD

*FACT.*
DOCTORS ARE AS HUMAN AS ANYONE CAN BE.

THEY ALSO FALL SICK, HAVE FAMILY COMMITMENTS, GET UPSET AND STRESSED SOMETIMES AND CAN SUFFER FROM ALL THE FRAILTIES OF A HUMAN BEING!
