COMBINATION TREATMENT FOR SMOKING/TOBACCO DEADDICTION

At Delhi Detox and Deaddiction clinic over 200 patients were treated for to***co and smoking addiction.

4 modes of treatment were selected in all , and patients were divided into 4 groups .

1. Only ni****ne chewing gum ( brand name nicotex) was used.(group A)

2. Only ni****ne transdermal patch ( 2baconil 21-14-7 sequentially ) was used.( group B)

3. Combination of ni****ne transdermal patch + bupripion 150 mg sustained release ( bupro SR ) once or twice daily. (Group C)

4. Combination of ni****ne transdermal patch + bupripion + cognitive behaviour Therapy ( CBT ).( group D)

All these treatment was continued for a period of three months and then stopped abruptly.

128 patients reported for follow up after 6 months from the start of therapy.

Smoking cessation rates were as follows:

Group A - 22.3 %
Group B - 33.8%
Group C- 45.6%
Group D- 66.6%

To Summarise, the combination therapy including ni****ne transdermal patch + bupripion + CBT programmed by Dr Sudeshna Biswas ( Head of Deaddiction program at Delhi Detox and Deaddiction clinic) was most effective in cessation of smoking/ to***co addiction among all modalities with a successful Deaddiction in two out of three subjects.
