A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY.

This is the story of Capt. Manjinder Singh Bhinder who saved 150+ lives while his son and wife were charred to death. This story will move your conscience.

13th June 1997. Board exam results were out. Young boys and girls were celebrating their victory. A super hit movie Border was in theatres. Upahar Cinema was jam packed with young students. Among them were Capt. Bhinder, his wife Jyot-Roop and his 4 year old son Ruskin.
Fire broke out inside the theatre. The fire exits were all locked from outside. Trying to find an exit, Capt. Maninder's son and wife caught fire. He tried to save them but both of them burnt to death.
Capt. Manjinder had no time to mourt. He started evacuating the other and saved nearly 150 lives before he also caught fire and could not survive.

The story doesn't end here. The Indian Army declared his death “attributable to military service”. But the then government of India refused to acknowledge his death as service to the nation as he was "Off Duty". His parents fought the case in the Delhi High court and this is when the Delhi High Court in a landmark Judgement declared that "A Soldier is Never Off Duty."

Remembering, the bravest of the brave, Young National Horse Riding Champion, Capt. Manjinder Singh Bhinder on the day he attained Veergati, while saving civilians.

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐚𝐠𝐥𝐞 & 𝐑𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧

The only bird that dares to peck and irritate an eagle is the raven. It will sit on the eagle’s back and start to continually bite its neck. However, the eagle does not respond, nor does it fight with the raven. 𝐈𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧…it just opens its wings and begins to fly and rise higher and higher into the heavens. The higher the eagle flies, the harder it is for the raven to breathe and soon, the raven falls off due to the lack of oxygen.

𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 “𝐫𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐬.” 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦 𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲.

The enemies may sit on our back and bite our neck. But remember, “the race we are running is not for the swift, nor the battle to the strong, nor the bread to the wise, nor riches to men of skill, but to play a right-brain game against ravens.

May God takes us to the height where it’ll be difficult for the enemies to peck on us in God’s name!

Exonerated Man and Crooked Cop Who Framed Him Show Us How to Love

What happens when the crooked cop that put you in jail for a crime you didn’t commit becomes your coffee shop colleague?

Friendship may not be the obvious choice, but that’s the choice that makes this story of Jameel McGee and former police officer Andrew Collins extraordinary.

Arrested on a false drug charge, Jameel spent four years in prison harboring hate for the Benton Harbor, Michigan cop who set him up.

The former officer was later convicted for several phony arrests and spent a year and a half in jail himself.

Yet when the two men were out of prison and found themselves working at the same faith-based café, Jameel realized he had to put aside the past in order to heal, and move forward.

Man O Man!

When without money,
eats vegetables at home;
When has money,
eats the same vegetables in a fine restaurant.

When without money, rides bicycle;
When has money rides the same ‘exercise machine’.

When without money walks to earn food
When has money, walks to burn fat;

Man O Man! Never fails to deceive thyself!

When without money,
wishes to get married;
When has money,
wishes to get divorced.

When without money,
wife becomes secretary;
When has money,
secretary becomes wife.

When without money, acts like a rich man;
When has money acts like a poor man.

Man O Man! Never can tell the simple truth!

Says share market is bad,
but keeps speculating;
Says money is evil,
but keeps accumulating.

Says high Positions are lonely,
but keeps wanting them.

Says gambling & drinking is bad,
but keeps indulging;

Man O Man! Never means what he says and never says what he means..

Praying to God for 3 minutes takes too much time but
watching a movie for 3 hours doesn't.

Rs.20 seems too much to give a beggar but it seems okay when its given as tip at a fancy restaurant.

Two poor starving kids sitting on the pavement weren't given even a slice of Bread but a painting of them sold for lakhs of Rupees.

Life is not about what you couldn't do so far,
it's about what you can still do.

Forward.
Make a change. Because you can...

Knowing Where To Hit – The Value of Expertise

This is an old story about a multi-million dollar power plant that had mysteriously ground to a halt. Many professional engineers were called in yet all efforts to restart it had failed and finally an old retired man was brought in. After studying the problem for a few minutes Graybeard took a hammer and hit one of the valves. With a rumble, the plant came back to life. Incredulous glances were shared, grateful cries and high-fives were exchanged.

The next day, the old man’s bill arrived for the amount of $10,000. The outraged manager thought “All he did was hit a valve with a hammer, this bill is ridiculous.” He asked for an itemized breakdown and Graybeard complies and sent an itemized bill that read:

1. Hitting valve with hammer $10.
2. Knowing which valve to hit: $9,990.

HUMILITY IS THE GREATEST VIRTUE

Humility, which is the greatest among all virtues known to mankind. Humility in Latin is humilis, means low. Humility is being low outside while high inside. It is self-effacing and the denial of self-importance. Humility is the antithesis of arrogance and false pride. It is the law of the nature that people who are strong and virtuous inside always remain low outside. We have examples of Jesus Christ, Gauthama Buddha and Mahatma Gandhi, and Basaveshwara nearer in our own state. They are all called as great souls because of their humility.

Humility is the antithesis of arrogance and false pride. Arrogance and false pride are the worst evils of the mankind and sure ways of destruction. Ravana in the Ramayana saw his end because of his arrogance. Duryodhana in the Mahabharatha carved out his destruction due to his false pride. Nearer in time, unlimited arrogance destroyed both Hi**er and Saddam Hussain.

Humility is a rare and the greatest virtue mankind has ever known. People with this great virtue in abundance stand out and shine like the Sun. They are liked by all. Everybody hates arrogance and the arrogant people. Mythology and History are full of stories that show how the forces of humility triumphed over the forces of arrogance.

Only a pure soul can have humility. And the humility brings about all other virtues including simplicity, honesty, patience, love, kindness and above all self-confidence. Humility sprouts from the heart. It is never practised for effect or benefit. Therefore, everybody trusts people who are filled with humility. Humility saves the world from all evils like deception, greed, hatred, anger, competition, suspicion and discontentment. It spreads simplicity, peace, harmony and contentment in humankind.

Jesus Christ spread the doctrine of showing the right cheek as well, when somebody slaps you on the left cheek. He also said that if anybody sues you for your shirt, let him have your coat as well. He died on the cross for the sins of the humanity at large. Ramayana is the story of the clash between the forces of humility represented by Rama and the forces of arrogance represented by Ravana, and the ultimate triumph of humility over arrogance. Mahabharatha is the story of the clash between the forces of humility represented by the Pandavas and the forces of arrogance represented by the Kauravas, and the ultimate triumph of humility over arrogance. Mahatma Gandhi vowed not to wear a shirt or travel first class in train until all the people in India could afford it. He discarded all the luxuries of the life and willingly lived the poorest of the poor life. This is humility. Basaveshwara, the Prime Minister of the king of Bijjala of Kalyana called himself a servant of the servants of the noble people. It is humility.

Humility is not easy to come. It needs cleansing of the soul from the evils of arrogance and false pride. And the Satan of the arrogance and false pride has strong hold on our life and cannot be shed easily. Only great souls with extra-ordinary strength inside can reach the higher levels. They are called as great souls. We can only try towards that end. If we succeed to any degree, we can be called as great. Humility is the true path towards peace, harmony and advancement to the divine end.

Humility is civility. Humility is utility. Humility is humanity. Humility is divinity.
The best are those who live in humility,
That brings to life greatness, easy felicity;
Those who have this aplenty are blessed,
And always stand out as the very best.

“The beginning of all knowledge is humility. Knowledge and humility cannot be separated, like sweetness cannot be separated from sugar”
– Radhanath Swami

"Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it's thinking of yourself less."
– C. S. Lewis

New Year's Resolution
By Sonja Herbert

I sit in the high school auditorium and watch my youngest, Meagan, receive her diploma. The blue and yellow cords over her red gown testify to the awards she won and the excellent work she did in school. I think of her bright smile just a few days ago, when she received her scholarship award from the university of her choice.

Her older brother holds a degree in physics and computers, one sister is an engineer, and two other sisters are planning to attend evening classes at colleges near them. And to think all of this came about because of one simple, even selfish, New Year's resolution I had made many years ago!

That New Year's Eve, I returned to the living room from tucking the first two of my children into bed.

"I've decided on my New Year's resolution," my husband said, looking up from watching the New Year's celebration on TV. "I'm going to save for my pilot lessons. If I don't start now, I'll never achieve my dream of flying a plane some day."

"Good for you," I answered. "But what about me? I'm stuck with the kids all day. It's not that I don't enjoy being a mother, but sometimes I wish I could do something for myself, too."

"Why don't you?" Gary suggested. "I'm sure you can think of something to do away from home." His attention returned to the show.

I sat down next to him, my eyes on the TV, and my thoughts about three thousand miles away. I could take an English class at the nearby college. That way, I'd get out of the house and learn something useful. And maybe I could improve my accent, so people would understand me better. After all, I'd come to the United States with my American husband only four years ago.

I grew up in post WWII Germany. At fourteen, after eight years of school, my mother sent me to work in a factory to support her and my five siblings. But even then I wanted more. I joined an American Christian church, and with the encouragement of my new friends, attended evening classes to learn English.

And now here I was, cut off from my family, mostly enjoying being a mother. But sometimes I wanted more. After all, I rationalized, if I take a class again, it wouldn't just benefit me; my children would have an advantage, too.

"You're right," I said. "I'll see if the college will allow me to take an English class. Just one class won't keep me away from the kids too long."

"Give it a try," my husband said. "I'm sure you'll do well."

But in my heart, I wondered. Taking a college class would be different from night classes learning English. I didn't know if I had the stuff to succeed in a university setting.

By the time classes started again, I realized I was expecting baby number three, so, half relieved and half disappointed, I postponed my resolution.

One day in March, after I'd put the kids down and finished cleaning up the supper dishes, my husband called to me from the living room, "I found a teacher."

Guilt made me almost drop the glass in my hand. "What teacher?" I yelled back.

"A pilot, licensed to teach flying."

"Oh." He wasn't talking about me, after all. Not everybody sticks to their New Year's resolution, I thought as I put away the last glass and then plopped onto the sofa next to him.

"What about your resolution?" he challenged me. "Have you signed up yet at the college?"

I shook my head. "I'm pregnant, you know."

"That shouldn't keep you from going back to school. If you sign up now, you could take the spring semester and be done in plenty of time before the baby comes."

I realized Gary was right. The worst that could happen would be that I'd drop the class again. I thought of the never-ending tasks at home, cooking three meals every day, a job I didn't really enjoy, chasing after Marja, the two year old, until I was exhausted, helping Dennis with homework, cleaning floors and washing dishes, wiping noses and changing diapers, and the prospect of soon having one more little life dependent on me. I knew I needed to do something for myself.

The next day, after dropping Dennis off at kindergarten, I took little Marja and we went to see the registrar at the college. I asked to be admitted to English 101 and told him I had the money ready. He made me fill out some papers. When he read them, he shook his head at my lack of a high school certificate.

"Okay," he finally said. "Try English 101. If you do well, you can keep taking classes."

I smiled as I returned to my car with a lighter heart.

A friend down the road babysat Marja three times a week while I attended class. I loved discovering the different styles of writing essays and trying my hand at them. At home, when I was busy with some routine task, in my head I went over what I had learned that day, and in the evenings, instead of watching TV with Gary, I sat at the table doing my homework.

I walked away from that first class with an A+.

After Daniel was born, I took English 102 and 103, and then put my education on hold while my fourth child Marit, came along. Two years later, even though I was expecting again, I knew I had to return to school. This time I took three classes at a time and paid a babysitter with the money I made typing term papers for other students. Our home wasn't as clean as it used to be and the older children helped cook, but I was happier, and my kids were proud of their mom, who also went to school, just like they did.

Two years later the sixth child was on the way, but by that time my marriage had become rocky, and my need to have an education was strong. I finished finals for my second-to-last semester the day before Meagan was born, and I took her with me to classes as I finished my AA in English and Foreign Languages.

Half a year later, we moved to Cedar City, where I attended the university full-time. I earned my BA in German, English, and Spanish, and a teaching certificate.

I taught high school for three years, and then I returned to the university for a Masters in Language Acquisition. Again, my children and I went to school together. I remember getting special permission from a professor during summer semester to bring little Meagan along with me to a class.

Now, as I sit in the auditorium, watching Meagan get ready for the university, I realize the impact of the New Year's resolution I made so long ago. Because I followed through on that resolution, education has changed not just my life, but the futures of all my children.
