Therefore, we will offer surgery only if we believe this to be in the best patients interest. We will explain to our patients all the benefits and risks associated with the surgical procedure and help them to take decision supported by evidences and results. If we think that the procedure needed is not within my surgical territory, we will make sure that patients are referred to right expertise.

Stomach cancer cases are increasing in India, and alarmingly, they are no longer limited to older age groups.

Lifestyle changes, food adulteration, and untreated acid reflux (GERD) are key contributors. Ongoing acidity, burning in the chest, or frequent reflux are warning signs that should not be ignored.

Early evaluation, especially with tests like endoscopy, can help detect problems at a stage when treatment is highly effective and often curative.

Take reflux seriously. Choose healthy habits. Consult a specialist early to prevent serious disease.

Life after stomach surgery brings changes that many patients are not fully prepared for.

After a gastrectomy, the body absorbs food and nutrients differently. Because of this, some patients may feel tired or weak, feel light-headed, or notice changes in weight or blood sugar levels. These are not unusual and are part of what we call post-gastrectomy disorder.

This does not mean something has gone wrong. It means the body needs time, monitoring, and proper guidance to adapt.
With proper monitoring, diet planning, and timely supplements, most of these issues can be managed effectively.

This reel explains why awareness after surgery matters just as much as the surgery itself.

“But I did everything right.”

This is a concern we often hear from young, physically active individuals diagnosed with gastrointestinal (GI) cancers.

A balanced diet and regular exercise are important for overall health and may help reduce disease risk. However, they may not eliminate all risk. Certain factors, such as genetic predisposition or underlying medical conditions, may still play a role despite a healthy lifestyle.

Most people with these risk factors may not develop cancer, but awareness and early evaluation are important.

👉 Swipe to understand three lesser-known risk factors that are not always influenced by diet alone.

🥗 A healthy diet can lower risk
🧬 Genetics can influence susceptibility

Some inherited genetic changes or chronic infections (such as H. pylori) may require medical evaluation and management.

Key message:
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is beneficial, but it should not replace medical attention. If you experience persistent or unexplained symptoms, timely consultation and appropriate investigations are advised, regardless of age or fitness level.

Most people don’t know they could inherit a higher cancer risk… until it’s too late.

Lynch Syndrome is a genetic condition that increases the risk of colon, stomach, uterine and other cancers — often at a younger age.

The good news? With early screening and timely check-ups, many of these cancers can be prevented.

In this video, Dr. Deep Goel, Senior Director of Surgical Gastroenterology, GI Oncology, and Bariatric Surgery, shares a remarkable and challenging case.

A 43-year-old gentleman arrived in the emergency room with acute intestinal obstruction — unable to pass stool or even wind. His abdomen was severely distended, and immediate investigations revealed a growth in the upper re**um completely blocking the intestinal lumen.

But the surprise came later.

After performing the first surgery, Dr. Deep Goel and his team conducted a colonoscopy, and discovered another cancer on the right side of the colon. This condition is known as synchronous malignancy, where two cancers exist simultaneously in the large intestine.

"We all get acidity occasionally. A heavy meal, stress, or spicy food can trigger it.

But when 'acidity' becomes a daily routine, it stops being a lifestyle issue and becomes a clinical warning.

The Dangerous Myth:
Many patients ignore early-stage Stomach or Esophageal cancer for months, believing it is just 'stubborn gas' or 'heartburn.' They self-medicate with over-the-counter antacids, masking the symptoms while the condition progresses.

When to suspect it's NOT just acidity:
🚨 Persistence: It happens despite eating healthy/taking meds.
🚨 Dysphagia: Difficulty or pain when swallowing.
🚨 Early Satiety: Feeling 'full' or bloated after eating very little.
🚨 Weight Loss: Dropping kilos without trying.
🚨 Dark Stool: A sign of internal bleeding.

So many people pop an antacid the moment acidity or burning starts, without realising that frequent symptoms are your body’s way of asking for help.

An occasional pill is fine, but relying on them again and again can disturb digestion, weaken your natural gut bacteria, and even increase your risk of infections over time.

If heartburn keeps returning after meals, late nights, stress, or certain foods, it’s worth pausing and getting it checked instead of masking it each time. Understanding the real cause brings far better relief than taking medicines blindly.

If your acidity has become frequent or persistent, speak to a specialist and protect your long-term digestive health.

When your bowel habits start changing, it’s your body’s way of asking for attention.

Constipation isn’t just discomfort, it often builds up slowly and can become persistent if ignored. And with Constipation Awareness Month here, it’s the right time to understand the signs your body may be giving you.

Here are a few things to watch for:
• Feeling of incomplete evacuation even after passing stool
• Bloating or abdominal heaviness that keeps coming back
• Long gaps between bowel movements, sometimes with straining

Simple steps like staying hydrated, adding more fibre, and keeping your body active can make a big difference.

But if the problem keeps returning, it’s time to get it checked. Early care prevents long-term complications.
