New regulations from National Medical Commission mandates every doctors to pursue self-directed learning and earn CPD Credits, 70 % in subject area (category 1) and 30 % in cross-disciplinary areas (category 2) to renew their medical practice licence. A significant 50 % of the required CPD Credits can be earned through self-directed online learning. This is an unprecedented opportunity to CPD providers and Pharma companies to develop subject matter (clinical) CPD in an active-learning format and develop CPD modules on category 2 area for in-person as well as online learning platforms (category 3).

In continuation of my earlier LinkedIn article "Embracing the Paradigm Shift: From CME to CPD - Unlocking the Potential for Comprehensive Professional Development" this article will give you deeper understanding of CPD.

Pharmaceutical companies should shift from Continued Medical Education (CME) to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) to foster holistic skill development, enhance patient care, and support regulatory alignment. CPD offers a broader scope, encompassing leadership, communication, and ethical decision-making, which leads to better patient outcomes and practical application of knowledge. Additionally, CPD's flexibility and focus on personalised learning paths promote continuous improvement and interdisciplinary collaboration, making healthcare professionals more adaptable and innovative in their practice. The National Medical Commission (NMC) of India has ushered in a transformative change in the realm of medical education and training with its emphasis on Continuous Professional Development (CPD) for medical practitioners. In the era of value-based healthcare, digital innovation, and big data, clinical decision support systems have become vital for organizations seeking to improve care delivery.

Clinical decision support (CDS) tools have the ability to analyze large volumes of data and suggest next steps for treatment, flagging potential problems and enhancing care team efficiency.

While these systems can add significant value to the healthcare industry, CDS technologies have also come with substantial challenges. Poorly implemented CDS tools that generate unnecessary alerts often result in alarm fatigue and clinician burnout, trends that can threaten patient safety and lead to worse outcomes.

Organizations that have access to accurate data, comprehensive integration methods, and skilled personnel can use machine learning to advance clinical decision support systems.

A team of international researchers has identified 69 drugs and compounds that could be effective in treating coronavirus, as scientists race to discover new ways to fight the pandemic.

The researchers say more than a third of the drugs are already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are currently used to treat a range of unrelated conditions, including diabetes, cancer and hypertension. They say studying such known drugs may be a faster method to find treatments for the coronavirus than to try to create a new antiviral drug from scratch.

The study, co-authored by nearly 100 researchers, has been published on a website for preprinted biology studies called bioRxiv. The researchers say they have submitted their study to a journal for publication.

In today’s turbulent world, where obesity, heart disease, dementia, and even a global pandemic like COVID19 are part of the landscape, we are confronted with abundant facts. But the application of these facts to drive outcomes relies on something more than just a pragmatic, informational discussion. It’s essential that words and ideas resonate, hit home, and create a sense of purpose. It’s been said that words matter. Today, these words must be combined with an emotional and contextual framework that empower every syllable. Our lives depend on it.

Why people with diabetes, like Tom Hanks, may be at increased risk of coronavirus?
According to early data from more than 44,000 confirmed cases in China as of Feb 11, deaths among patients who had diabetes were at 7%, compared with 0.9% for those without an underlying condition, the CDC says.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, there may be two reasons for the complications that can arise.
"Firstly, the immune system is compromised, making it harder to fight the virus and likely leading to a longer recovery period," the group wrote in its "Diabetes Voice" publication. "Secondly, the virus may thrive in an environment of elevated blood glucose."

'Striking Paradox' of Misaligned Diabetes Treatment Could Harm. Older patients with diabetes and multiple comorbidities were more likely to be treated to a lower A1c level with insulin — exposing them to the risk of hypoglycemia — whereas younger healthier patients who could benefit from more aggressive therapy had worse glycemic control, in a new study based on US insurance claims.

Changing the way we view women's heart:
A new study published in February in Circulation: Cardiovascular Quality and Outcomes found women under age 55 often have more variation in symptom combinations – not just differences in individual symptoms – than men. Physicians have sometimes failed to relate these other, less-obvious symptom combinations to heart attacks and thus refrained from making a heart attack diagnosis.

Both women and medical professionals need to change the way they think about the signs of a heart attack, experts say.
