Hello everyone! I want to share some important and encouraging news from the Union Budget 2026-27 about new support for Divyangjan (persons with disabilities). 🇮🇳✨
In this year’s budget, the government has announced special steps to help persons with disabilities with skills, jobs, assistive devices, and dignified livelihood opportunities. These are meant to empower and include them in education, training, employment and technology.
1. Divyangjan Kaushal Yojana
A new scheme to provide industry-relevant and customised training tailored to different disability groups.
The goal is to ensure dignified livelihood opportunities for 20,000 Divyangjan over the next 5 years through appropriate skill development.
Budget Allocation: ₹200 crore has been provided for this scheme in 2026-27.
2. Divyangjan Sahara Yojana
This scheme will support the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) to:
• Scale up production of assistive devices (like artificial limbs, wheelchairs, etc.)
• Invest in research & development and AI integration for better products
• Strengthen Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendras and set up modern Assistive Technology Centres to make devices more accessible.
Budget Allocation: ₹100 crore has been provided for this scheme in 2026-27.
3. Overall Disability Sector Support
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities received a total net budget of about ₹1,669.72 crore in 2026-27 — significantly higher than earlier years — showing strong financial support for welfare and inclusion.
4. Other Related Supports
✔ Scholarships for students with disabilities also increased (₹150 crore), helping youth continue education.
✔ Support under other programmes for aids and appliances, rehabilitation schemes and institute support continued strongly.
Why this matters: These initiatives will help Divyangjan gain new skills, access better assistive technology, find decent jobs or work opportunities, and live with dignity and independence. It’s a step toward a more inclusive and developed India where everyone gets real opportunities to succeed. 🇮🇳💪
