VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect) is one of the most common heart holes seen in children.
Some VSDs close naturally, but many need timely medical intervention to prevent long-term heart and lung damage.

With modern pediatric cardiology, device closure and minimally invasive treatments allow children to recover fast and live a normal, active life.

The key is not just treatment —
it’s the right treatment at the right time.

Not every heart hole should be waited on.

Some heart defects may close naturally, but others can silently damage the heart and lungs if treatment is delayed.
That’s why decisions are never based on age alone — doctors evaluate heart size, lung pressure, and a child’s growth before deciding the right treatment.

In suitable cases, device closure offers a safe, stitch-free solution with quick recovery.
The key is right evaluation at the right time.

Early expert opinion can protect a child’s heart for life.

As a pediatric cardiologist, there are a few things I always suggest to parents.

First — don’t ignore poor weight gain.
A child who eats well but doesn’t gain weight may have a heart issue.

Second — recurrent chest infections are not always a lung problem.
If pneumonia keeps coming back, the heart should be checked once.

Third — don’t depend only on “wait and watch.”
Some heart holes need timely treatment to avoid permanent damage.

Fourth — follow-ups are as important as the procedure itself.
Missing follow-ups can change outcomes.

And lastly — always take a second opinion from a pediatric cardiologist,
because children’s hearts are not small adult hearts.

The right advice at the right time can change a child’s entire future.

Many parents worry that if device closure is done in a very young child, the heart hole might increase again as the child grows — or that the device may need replacement later.

In reality, device therapy is a permanent, once-in-a-lifetime treatment.
Within a few months, the heart’s natural tissue grows over the device, making it a part of the heart itself. As the child grows, the heart grows normally — the hole stays closed forever.

Dr. Abhimanyu Uppal explains why parents can be completely confident about device closure in children.

Some newborn heart diseases are so critical that survival chances drop below 10 percent.
But today, PDA Stenting has changed the outcome.

A breakthrough that is saving countless newborn lives.

Worried about how long your child will take to recover after a heart procedure?
With today’s advanced interventional cardiology, children recover incredibly fast.
There are no stitches, no chest cuts, no dressings, and no physical limitations after discharge.

Most children:
• Walk normally immediately
• Go home in 2–3 days
• Can return to school the very next day
• Resume all routine activities — eating, playing, climbing stairs, cycling

This is why pediatric cardiac intervention is considered one of the safest, most comfortable treatments for children with heart defects.
