Important information about -

1) Makar Sankranti is a harvest festival celebrated as transition of the sun that takes place from Sagittarius to Capricorn.

2) On this day people worship the Sun God and take a holy dip at Sangam, which is the confluence of the rivers Yamuna, Saraswati and Ganga in Allahabad as it is considered to cleanse ones sins.

3) The festival is known by various names in different parts of the country. In Gujarat, it is known as .
It’s called ‘Khichiri’ in U.P.
The eve of Makar Sankranti is celebrated as in Punjab,
In south it is called Pongal
In M.P. it is known as ‘Sakarat’.

4) In Assam it is called Magh Bihu/ Bhogali Bihu. It is celebrated with feasting, dancing, and celebration of bonfires.
The other name Bhogali Bihu, translated to the festival of food.
In West Bengal it is called Posh Parbon.

5) In Tamil Nadu it is called
It is a 4 day festival-

Day 1: Bhogi Pandigai
People burn old clothes to let go of the bad past and emergence of new future.

Day 2: Thai Pongal
It is the main festival where the tradition of rice prevails.The rice is boiled& offered to god.

Day 3: Maattu Pongal
Cattles are decorated& worshipped as a sign of thanks for their role in agriculture.

Day4: Kaanum Pongal
People wear new clothes,visit relatives, exchange gifts.
Celebrated 4 days from d last day of Tamil month Maargazhi to d 3rd day of Tamil month Thai.

6) Kumbh Mela, world's largest religious gathering is seen in Uttar Pradesh during this time. People tend to perform huge charities on this occasion.

7) Makar means Capricorn and Sankranti refers to transition.

8) The northward revolution of the sun begins on Makar Sankranti.

9) Various traditional delicacies of rice and til are made on this day along with a few traditional sweets.

10) Kite flying is a ritual of sorts as people believe that through the kites, their wishes reach the Gods.

I thank you in the name of the most ancient order of monks in the world; I thank you in the name of the mother of religions, and I thank you in the name of millions and millions of Hindu people of all classes and sects.My thanks, also, to some of the speakers on this platform who, referring to the delegates from the Orient, have told you that these men from far-off nations may well claim the honor of bearing to different lands the idea of toleration. I am proud to belong to a religion which has taught the world both tolerance and universal acceptance. We believe not only in universal toleration, but we accept all religions as true. I am proud to belong to a nation which has sheltered the persecuted and the refugees of all religions and all nations of the earth. I am proud to tell you that we have gathered in our bosom the purest remnant of the Israelites, who came to Southern India and took refuge with us in the very year in which their holy temple was shattered to pieces by Roman tyranny. I am proud to belong to the religion which has sheltered and is still fostering the remnant of the grand Zoroastrian nation. I will quote to you, brethren, a few lines from a hymn which I remember to have repeated from my earliest boyhood, which is every day repeated by millions of human beings: "As the different streams having their sources in different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee."The present convention, which is one of the most august assemblies ever held, is in itself a vindication, a declaration to the world of the wonderful doctrine preached in the Gita: "Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me." Sectarianism, bigotry, and its horrible descendant, fanaticism, have long possessed this beautiful earth. They have filled the earth with violence, drenched it often and often with human blood, destroyed civilization and sent whole nations to despair. Had it not been for these horrible demons, human society would be far more advanced than it is now. But their time is come; and I fervently hope that the bell that tolled this morning in honor of this convention may be the death-knell of all fanaticism, of all persecutions with the sword or with the pen, and of all uncharitable feelings between persons wending their way to the same goal.

This green jackfruit flour proved to be good for people with type-2 diabetes. The findings of the study were published in ADA journal, Diabetes.

राजस्थान में निजी चिकित्सा संस्थानों और लैब्स में टैस्ट की दरें वापस तय करते हुए राजस्थान सरकार ने इसे 1200 रूपये से घटाकर 800 रूपये कर दिया है। पहले जांच के लिए निजी लैब्स में 2200 रूपये लिए जा रहे थे, उसे पूर्व में घटाकर 1200 किया गया था अब यह जांच 800 रुपए में हो सकेगी।
