In Ayurveda, food holds the power to nourish, heal, and balance the body.
But when foods are combined incorrectly, even the healthiest ingredients can behave like toxins.
This ancient concept is called “Viruddha Ahaar — incompatible food combinations“ described in our Ayurvedic classics, especially in Charaka Samhita.
When two foods differ greatly in:
✨ Rasa (taste)
🔥 Virya (potency)
🌀 Vipaka (post-digestive effect)
⚖️ Dosha impact
⚗️ Method of processing
- they disrupt Agni (digestive fire), leading to ama (toxins),
- Confuse the metabolism causing digestive issues
- allergies and skin disorders
- fatigue and long-term imbalance of Doshas.
Some Common Viruddha Ahaar Combinations to Avoid
❌ Milk + Fish
❌ Milk + Sour fruits
❌ Milk + Banana smoothies
❌ Fruit with meals or after meals
❌ Ghee overheated heated
❌ Curd at night
❌ Hot & cold foods together
❌ Ghee & honey ( in equal quantities)
They may taste good — but they confuse the body.
