His name is Norman Cousins, an American journalist and editor.

In 1964, he was diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis, a painful and debilitating spinal cord disease. Given a poor prognosis, he devised his own therapy, which included:
Watching funny movies (like Marx Brothers films) and TV shows to induce laughter.
Taking massive doses of Vitamin C.

He documented that ten minutes of hearty laughter gave him at least two hours of pain-free sleep. His condition significantly improved, and he later wrote the best-selling book, Anatomy of an Illness. He became a major advocate for the mind-body connection in healing, and his work helped pioneer the field of laughter therapy.
