ഏറ്റുപ്പാറ എനിക്ക് ഒരു ഗ്രാമം മാത്രമല്ല; അത് ഒരു പുണ്യഭൂമിയാണ്. അവിടെയുള്ള ജനങ്ങളുടെ ആത്മാർത്ഥതയും ലളിതത്വവും പരസ്പര സ്‌നേഹവും തന്നെയാണ് ഈ സ്ഥലത്തെ വിശുദ്ധമാക്കുന്നത്. ഞാൻ ജനിക്കുകയും വളരുകയും ചെയ്തത് ഈ മണ്ണിലാണ്—ഈ വായുവിലും വെള്ളത്തിലുമാണ് എന്റെ ജീവിതമൂല്യങ്ങൾ രൂപപ്പെട്ടത്.

എന്റെ ഓർമ്മ ശരിയാണെങ്കിൽ, 1987-ൽ ആദ്യമായി വിദേശത്തേക്ക് പോയത് ഏറ്റുപ്പാറയിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ആദ്യ വ്യക്തി ഞാൻ ആയിരുന്നു. അതിനുശേഷം പ്രൊഫഷണൽ ബാധ്യതകളുടെ ഭാഗമായി പല രാജ്യങ്ങളിലും നഗരങ്ങളിലും ഞാൻ ജീവിച്ചു. എങ്കിലും എവിടെയായാലും, ഏറ്റുപ്പാറ എപ്പോഴും എന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു—കാരണം ഒരു സ്ഥലത്തെ ഓർമ്മയിൽ നിലനിര്‍ത്തുന്നത് കെട്ടിടങ്ങളോ വഴികളോ അല്ല, അവിടെയുള്ള മനുഷ്യരും അവരുടെ സ്‌നേഹവുമാണ്.

എന്റെ ഗ്രാമത്തിന്റെ പ്രത്യേകത അവിടെയുള്ള ലളിതമായ മനുഷ്യർ, ശുദ്ധമായ വായു, നിർമ്മലമായ വെള്ളം, സത്യസന്ധമായ ജീവിതരീതി എന്നിവയാണ്—പണംകൊണ്ട് വാങ്ങാനാകാത്തതും കാലം മായ്ക്കാനാകാത്തതുമായ മൂല്യങ്ങൾ.

ഇന്ന് വൈകുന്നേരം ഏറ്റുപ്പാറയിൽ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ, എന്റെ സഹപാഠിയായ ശ്രീ. തോമസിനെയും സുഹൃത്തുക്കളെയും വളരെ സ്വാഭാവികമായി വിശ്രമിക്കുന്ന നിലയിൽ കണ്ടു. യാതൊരു അഭിനയവും ഇല്ലാതെ, ജീവിതത്തെ അതുപോലെ ആസ്വദിച്ചുകൊണ്ട്. ആ നിമിഷത്തിൽ തന്നെ ഞാൻ ഒരു ചിത്രം പകർത്തി.

നിഷ്കളങ്കമായ മനുഷ്യരുടെ യഥാർത്ഥ പുഞ്ചിരി കാണണമെങ്കിൽ, ഈ ചിത്രം ശ്രദ്ധയോടെ നോക്കൂ.
