Peripheral vascular disease (PVD) is a condition where narrowed blood vessels outside the heart and brain reduce blood flow to the limbs. The most common cause is atherosclerosis, the buildup of plaque in arteries, but it can also result from injury, infection, or abnormal muscles or ligaments. Symptoms often include leg cramping or pain during activity, but can also involve non-healing wounds, skin discoloration, and even gangrene in advanced cases.
