5 SIGNS THAT INDICATE THAT THE HEAD OF BABY IS ENGAGED

1. Belly looks lower “ LIGHTENING” : the bump appears to “drop” and clothes may feel looser above the waist.
2. Breathing feels easier : as the baby descends down it reduces pressure on the lungs, so now the mother feels less breathless.
3. Pressure in the va**na and pelvic area : there is a heavy or full feeling deep in the pelvis or va**na because the head of baby is pressing down., sometimes described as a ball between the legs.
4. Increased frequency of urination : more trips to the bathroom because of bladder compression
5. Change in walking pattern (“waddle”) : slightly wider gait or waddling due to the head deep in the pelvis. Some may also report sharper twinges in the groin.

These are usually felt in the last few weeks before labour, especially in the first pregnancies.

✨ Lifestyle factors (smoking, alcohol, excess caffeine)

You are told to take folic acid in pregnancy. But what many don’t tell you is that hot water baths, saunas, or even untreated fever can undo its protective effects and seriously harm your baby’s brain and spinal cord.

🚨 A study in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that hot baths or fever can triple the risk of neural tube defects in early pregnancy.

💡 How to Protect Your Baby from Heat-Related Neural Tube Defects:
1️⃣ Treat fevers fast – high fever (>101.3°F) in the 1st trimester is risky.
2️⃣ Take antipyretics immediately if fever occurs, especially in the first 6 weeks.
3️⃣ Avoid hot baths or saunas – keep water below 37.5°C (99.5°F).
4️⃣ Skip hot water bottles on belly/back – use only warm compresses wrapped in cloth.
5️⃣ Limit warm showers/baths to 10 mins. Avoid steaming/overheating.
6️⃣ Stay cool while trying to conceive – risks start even before you know you’re pregnant.

👶 Dear mamas-to-be, the damage can begin before you even realize you are pregnant. Please avoid hot tubs, saunas, and overheating your body in the first trimester.

✨ If this is new to you, share it with your sisters, friends, and colleagues. One simple share could save a little life.

✨ Feeling so grateful today! ✨
When your work brings smiles and blessings, it’s the greatest reward — but when one of my lovely patients, whose IVF journey I was blessed to guide, surprises me with a song dedicated by Jimmy from Aasma… it truly touches my heart. 💖

Thank you so much to my amazing patient for this heartfelt gesture and to Jimmy Felix (from the Aasma band) for making it extra special with his beautiful voice. Moments like these remind me why I do what I do every single day. 🌟
