I am Gilbert Langner and I am a yoga teacher living in Berlin now.
I used to be a derivatives trader for 25 years, trading options and futures, and sitting in front of a computer all day. I am originally from Germany, but have lived abroad for the last 23 years, 16 of them in Hong Kong.
I never did any sports in my childhood, youth or as an adult. But in March 2015, so a little bit more than 4 years ago, I started to practice yoga daily at the age of 47. I chose yoga, or maybe yoga chose me, not because it was easy, but because it was hard and challenging for me. I am very tall, 1.9 m and have very long arms and legs which makes the physical exercise part of yoga even more challenging. But despite these obstacles I have advanced a lot, it still surprises me that I can do splits and handstand at the age of 51. I realised that the best way to meditate for me was actually while I practice yoga, the more challenging the asanas are the better I can switch off my brain from overthinking.
Originally I took yoga teacher training courses, not because I wanted to become a teacher, but because I wanted to practice yoga by myself without the need of a yoga teacher. After only one and a half years of practice, many people started to think I am a yoga teacher and almost everyone thought that I have been practicing for ten years or more.Whenever I helped people in their practice or gave them tips and advice, almost everyone encouraged me to teach yoga. I started to realise that my path was unique in the yoga teaching world.
Handstand, it is the most challenging asana for me as I am very tall and have long arms and legs.Handstand shows that even the most difficult and challenging asana can be achieved if you are dedicated.
