Did you know Vijay Mallya’s luxury Private Jet ‘VT-VJM’ was dismantled at Air India hanger ?

Following at least three failed auctions and extended legal procedures, the aircraft was auctioned by the official liquidator attached to the Karnataka high court in June last year.

The US-based Aviation Management Sales (AMS) won the bid at a price of 34.8 crore (USD 5.05 million). It was taken to Air India hangar in mid-February and parts are being removed and sent to the US firm. In December 2013, the aircraft plane was attached by the service tax department.

Air India’s regional director (West) Mukesh Bhatia told Bangalore Mirror: “This aircraft can’t be made fly-worthy. It is being dismantled in our workshop. The process of dismantling is on and it will take some time.” As per the bidding norms, the jet had to be removed from the tarmac within two months, the daily mentioned citing people in the know in the aviation industry.

It may be noted that the Mumbai International Airport Limited has conveyed the Bombay high court that it was facing a huge loss as the plane was parked permanently and was resulting in non-productive use of its space.
