March is Gastrointestinal Tumor Awareness Month.

Gastrointestinal (GI) tumors affect the digestive system of pets and are often difficult to detect early, because the symptoms can look like common stomach problems.

Persistent vomiting, diarrhea, appetite changes, or weight loss are sometimes dismissed as minor digestive issues — but when these signs continue or keep returning, they should not be ignored.

Awareness is important because early detection can significantly improve treatment options and outcomes.

If your pet has ongoing digestive symptoms, it’s always best to seek veterinary advice early.

Your awareness could help catch a problem before it becomes serious.

Sometimes healing isn’t just about medicine.
It’s also about care, patience, and the people who stay by their side.

During his 15 days with us, Shadow formed a special bond with Pradeep, one of our veterinary technicians. From feeding him to sitting beside him, Pradeep made sure Shadow never felt alone.

And slowly, day by day… Shadow got stronger.

Today, he’s back home — happy and enjoying life again. 🐾❤️

Because here, your pets are cared for like our own.

Sanju’s journey started with just bleeding gums. Due to vigilant pet parents, a diagnosis was quickly reached and treatment initiated !

At just 4.5 years old, Sanju was active, eating well, and full of life.
What looked like a small oral issue turned out to be oral squamous cell carcinoma.

With proper planning, CT-based staging, and timely surgery, the cancer was removed with clear margins — and Sanju’s quality of life was well preserved.

Today, Sanju is doing well on active surveillance.
His story is a reminder that early signs matter.

Bleeding gums are not normal.
Early care can save lives!

🐾 Top 5 Signs of Cancer in Pets You Should Never Ignore

Pets can’t tell us when something is wrong, but their bodies do.
Lumps that don’t go away, wounds that won’t heal, unexplained weight loss, breathing changes, or shifts in energy and mobility can all be early warning signs of cancer.

Many of these signs are painless at first and often mistaken for minor issues. The key is timely attention. If something feels unusual or persists beyond a couple of weeks, don’t wait, get it checked.

Early detection can change outcomes, comfort, and quality of life. 💙

Meet Muffin — a brave 9-year-old who faced more than her share of battles.

She came in with a mammary mass, which turned out to be a low-grade tumor.
But that wasn’t all…

🔍 Another tumor was found at the base of her tail.
🩺 Around the same time, she developed signs of Open Pyometra — a life-threatening infection.

⚠️ Emergency OVH (spay) surgery was performed along with tumor removals.

Three surgeries. One incredibly strong dog.
Today, Muffin is happy, healthy, and thriving — thanks to early detection, timely surgery, and ongoing monitoring.

Her journey is a reminder:
✅ Never ignore unusual signs
✅ Regular X-rays, ultrasounds, and exams can save lives

✨ Multiple issues, one strong recovery.
Don’t wait. Act early.

Shera, a 3.5-year-old cat, presented with severe pain from a bone tumor in his shoulder.
While the biopsy did not give a clear diagnosis, his clinical signs and imaging spoke clearly.

Limb amputation was done for pain relief — and it gave Shera his comfort back. 💙

Learning oncology beyond textbooks. ""🎗️
It was a privilege to have Dr. Sahan Shavinda Rathnaweera, Dr. Achira Sulakshana Fernando, Dr. Zeeba De Mel, and Dr. Janani Alwis visit us at The Cancer Vet.

From chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and surgery to cytology and case-based discussions, they learnt how cancer care is meticulously planned, discussed, and provided as a team.

Thankful for the shared learning, meaningful conversations, and global exchange of knowledge. 🌏🐾

Joy came to us after two incomplete surgeries for a jaw tumor that kept coming back.
With detailed CT planning, we performed a caudal maxillectomy to remove the cancer with proper margins.

The result? Clean margins, a grade-2 fibrosarcoma, and a dog eating happily the same night. 🐾
In cancer surgery, the first cut truly gives the best chance for cure.
